500 attend CME on hernia
Ludhiana, May 8 Dr Amarjeet Singh, former principal and head of surgery of the Government Medical College, Patiala, inaugurated the conference by lighting the lamp of learning. He said private institutions should spearhead education programmes as they were not tied down by the red tape. Presiding over the
CME, Dr Livtar Singh Chawla, former Vice-Chancellor of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, appreciated the initiative for updating the technical skills of the surgeons. He asked the medical professionals to adopt a humane approach and take up community health service projects, particularly for the benefit of economically weaker sections and poor patients. Dr
M.C. Mishra, head, Department of Surgery, All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Dr Parveen Bhatia from Global Hospital, New Delhi, Dr S.P. Dembla from Jaipur Golden Hospital, New Delhi, Dr
G.S. Sidhu from Doraha and Dr Narotam Dewan from the host institution, presented their papers and demonstrated their skills which were projected live through audio-visual system. The presentation by Dr Dewan on “Evolving surgical scenario”, depicted futuristic surgery in the pipeline. This demonstration included robotic surgery, space surgery, real time imaging - combining computers, CT scan, MRI scan and latest visual systems like stereoscopic cameras. He also illustrated latest training techniques for the surgeons with life-like simulators. Unlike dissection carried on the dead bodies, where the arteries did not bleed and pulsate, these simulators provided a better and quick training on life-like body dissection images. The delegates also got the chance to record and later review their work. A souvenir, containing diagramatic details of latest laparoscopic hernia repair, articles on laparoscopic gall bladder surgery, breast cancer awareness and a photographic depiction of day-to-day working of Dewan Hospital, was released by Dr Amarjeet Singh on this
occasion. Twenty free hernia surgeries were carried out in the workshop by Dr Dewan and other visiting surgeons. |
