Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 23
Balanced diet is the key to combat malnutrition in developing countries, experts attending the 21th All-India Ayurvedic Specialists Conference and seminar on malnutrition held at Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College and Dabur Dhanwantry Hospital, Sector 46, said here today.

Speaking at the seminar, Prof Dharma Vir from the International Vedic Institute, New Delhi, said malnutrition had assumed alarming proportions in the developing countries. Food at affordable price and clean drinking water were luxuries and the tropical infections make life difficult.

He claimed that ayurveda could play a significant role in the treatment of malnutrition since it kept the body composition in mind.

It was highlighted that irregular dietary habits were one of the most potent causes of the diseases along with stress-induced anxiety. Stress may be mental but nutritional disorders are certainly the most potent physical causes of diseases, the experts said.

Meanwhile, the local college has been rated as one of the best in India and recently the Government of India released Rs 12 lakh grant for the upgradation of research and development infrastructure, Mr Naresh Mittal, vice-president of the Shri Dhanwantry Educational Society, added.
