Inter-district cricket tourney: Chandigarh 305 for 9

Chandigarh, April 15
Chandigarh cricket team scored 305 for 9 in 90 overs in the under-15 Punjab Inter District Cricket Tournament for the Sushil Bali Trophy being held at DAV School, Sector 8, here today.

The match is being played between Chandigarh and Ludhiana.

Chandigarh won the toss and elected to bat first. The start was not very impressive as it lost two wickets with just 15 runs on board. Ayush and Gaurav Puri pulled the team out of crisis and made 69 and 66, respectively. Ankit and Avinash too contributed valuable runs and scored 52 and 60, respectively.

At the close of the play, Ludhiana team scored 4 runs in 14 overs without losing any wicket.

Today’s score: Chandigarh: 305 for 9 in 90 overs. Ayush Soni 69, Gaurav Puri 66, Ankit 52, Avinash 60, Anshul 22 n.o., Rahul Singla 4 for 69 and Rattan Singh 3 for 36.

Ludhiana: 4 for no loss in 14 overs. Sushil playing at 2 and Akhil at 1.

Singhal makes it to Indian deaf cricket team

Chandigarh, April 15
Viney Singhal, captain of the Punjab Deaf Cricket team and Chandigarh deaf cricket team, has been selected for the Indian deaf cricket team.
The team is scheduled to play matches against the Pakistan deaf cricket team in September. It will also participate in the World Cup Deaf Cricket Tournament’ to be held at Uttar Pradesh in November.

In December, the team will visit New Zealand.

Singhal is the first player from Chandigarh as well as Punjab to be in the Indian deaf team. He has participated in several national and international tournaments and given excellent performance.

He is doing practice under the guidance of coach Sukhwinder Singh.

Ankita, Mandeep win tennis talent series

Ankita Singh of Chandigarh gave Poorna, another city girl, a straight set defeat 6-4, 6-4 in the finals of girls’ singles under-16 AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament held at Lake Club, Sector 6, here today.

In another contest, under-14 boys’ singles final between the Chandigarh duo, Digvijay and Mandeep, the former fought brilliantly against Mandeep, but eventually lost the match 2-6, 6-7 (4).

Wg Com Satish Bhatia, an Olympian and former international badminton player, gave away the prizes to the winners.

The tournament ,which concluded today, was organised by the city Sports Department in collaboration with the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association under the guidelines of All India Tennis Association.

The final results were: Girls’ singles (under-16): Ankita Singh (Chandigarh) beat Poorna (Chandigarh) 6-4,6-4. Boys’ singles (under-16): Mandeep Gill (Chandigarh) beat Pulkit Mishra (Delhi) 7-6(4), 6-2. Girls’ singles (under-14): Poorna (Chandigarh) beat Mehak (Chandigarh) 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Boys’ singles (under-14): Mandeep Gill (Chandigarh) beat Digvijay (Chandigarh) 6-2, 7-6(4). Boys’ doubles (under-14): Fateh Singh Ladder (Chandigarh) and Arjun Sehgal (Punjab) beat Kshitij Kamal (Delhi) and Amit Chauhan (Chandigarh) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Girls’ doubles (under-16): Poorna (Chandigarh) and Renuka (Delhi) beat Mehak (Chandigarh) and Sadgi (Gujarat) 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Boys’ doubles (under-16): Pulkit Mishra (Delhi) and Saurav Sharma (Punjab) beat Harsh Vardhan (Gujarat) and Chandan (Chandigarh) 4-6,6-2,6-2.
