Homoeopathy getting popular
Manish Kumar Singal

HOMOEOPATHY is getting popular. It has picked up so sharply during the past decade that people have started trusting this system for even dreaded diseases like cancer, brain tumour, tuberculosis etc. The younger generation is opting for homoeopathy as a profession and finding that it is paying and satisfactory.

Tarang Krishna, a young homoeopathic doctor, said the time has gone when people used to take this medicine as a secondary one. Now they believe more in homoeopathy than allopathy, he claims. Illustrating with an example, he said people now prefer to have Mac-Phos, a painkiller in homoeopathy medicine, instead of Bruffin.

Institutes offering the course: Almost every state has an institute offering homoeopathy as a course. It is a five and a half year course after class XII. There is an entrance test after which a student gets admission in college depending on merit. In Delhi, there is Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College, Defence Colony, B.R. Sur Medical College, Dhaula Kuan, Bharti Vidyapeeth Homoeopathic Medical College, Pune, Ahmedabad Homoeopathic Medical College, Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College, Gujarat Homoeopathic Medical College, Hanemann Homoeopathic Medical College, Bhopal, Lal Bahadur Shastri Homoeopathic Medical College, Bhopal, Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, Smt. Chandaben Mohanbai Patel Homoeopathic Medical College, Mumbai. There are other homoeopathic colleges in other states as well.

Tarang said homoeopathy medicines are made in such a way that they have no side-effects and cure the patient naturally.

Dr Pankaj Bhatnagar, another homoeopathic doctor, said, "A recent survey conducted by the Central Council of Homoeopathic CCH found that many people prefer alternative medicine to allopathic medicine.

Eligibility: To get admission in homoeopathy, one should get minimum 50 per cent marks in physics, chemistry, biology and english in class XII. After which he would be eligible to sit in CET, conducted by deemed universities. On the ranking of the CET, a student gets admission in various courses like Bachelor in Dental Surgery BDS, ayurveda and homoeopathy.

Emoluments: As a doctor, it is more important that the patient gets relief more rapidly than assessing the consultation fees he has given. Even then, the earnings in this profession have increased manifold during the last decade.

MORE and more people are preferring to consult doctors of this discipline these days. Dr Pankaj Bhatnagar, a homoeopathic physician, gives his views on the profession.

Q. Do you think homoeopathy is an emerging career?

A. In homoeopathy, a sustained research has been conducted over the past 10 years. Even chronic diseases are being treated successfully without side-effects. The basic reason behind it is that it is based on increasing the immunity power of the body against a specific disease. If some people still believe that homoeopathy is an outdated profession, they are on the wrong side.

Q. Can we take homoeopathic medicine as an alternative in surgical cases?

A. No, homoeopathy cannot substitute any immediate surgical solution. Rather it can cure a disease if diagnosed in time.

Q. What message would you like to give to the younger generation seeking admission in homoeopathy?

A. Homoeopathy would be one of the most advanced pathies in the coming times. Not only in India but overseas also, scientists are working on homoeopathy to come up with more effective medicines to cure patients rapidly. — MKS
