IDA president to be felicitated

Ludhiana, March 9
The Punjab state and Ludhiana branch of the Indian Dental Association will felicitate a city-based dental surgeon, Dr Bhagwant Singh, at a function here on March 13. Dr Bhagwant Singh has taken over as president of the Indian Dental Association and is the second dentist from Punjab in the past 60 years to hold this prestigious post.

A graduate from KG Medical College, Lucknow, Dr Bhagwant Singh has served as president of the Punjab state branch of the association. He has organised more than 10 dental conferences and national dental health programmes and CDEs in various specialities of dentistry all around the state.

He is also the founder honorary secretary of the Dental Private Practitioners Association, Punjab, and Director of the Institute of Career Designing in Dentistry.

Seminar on improved nutrition for women

Ludhiana, March 9
A seminar on “Empowering Women for Improved Health and Nutrition” was organised at Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women here today. Those who spoke on the occasion were Dr S.K. Maan, former Dean College of Home Science, PAU, Dr Molly Joshi, chief dietician, Christian Medical College and Hospital, Dr Rama Sophat, gynaecologist, and Dr Parween Chawla, Home Science Department, M T S College. Dr Sween Ahluwalia, Director, Department of Adult Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the guest of honour.

Dr Joshi said during the pregnancy and lactation period women demand extra nutrients. And if these were not given to them, the newborn baby could be underweight and develop deficiency sooner or later.

RIMT athletic meet ends

The two-day athletic meet organised at RIMT Institute of Engineering and Technology concluded here yesterday. Mr Hukum Chand Bansal, Chairman, RIMT group of institutions, was the chief guest.

Navdeep Dhindsa and Navneet Kaur were declared the best athletes in the men and women categories, respectively. Harsimran Singh was declared the fencing champion; Kaushik Sharma was declared Mr RIMT. Members of the faculty and staff also took part in the race.

The results are as follows:
