Who says the Punjab Government is doing nothing for the unemployed. The government has given employment to the Chairman and 11 members of the Punjab Subordinate Service Selection Board. That too where there is no work, the members have been appointed on a full pay scale.

I sympathise with the members of the Board. Some of them must have used their contacts, and money to get themselves inducted in the board. But now they are unable to enjoy the fruits of the selection process due to a blanket ban on the recruitment process. Had I been one of the members of the board, I would have moved the court for compensation. I would have certainly claimed a non-importance allowance.

On the other hand, some well-meaning citizens might be wondering that if the board members have no job to perform, why are they being paid full salaries. The government should assign them responsibilities like:

  • The members of the board can be sent to various places to make false promises of employment.

  • They can be entrusted with finding faults with the recruitments made by the previous government.

  • The board could be given the responsibility of trying to create new jobs where the officers are not dependent on their salaries alone.

  • The members of the Service Selection Board could also be made busy by going to the various districts of Punjab to trying to convince the unemployed youth that now there is nothing alluring left in 'sarkari naukri'.

Instead of 11 members, there should be 1100 members of the PSSSB. The term should be of one month only. This will be a giant step in removing unemployment.
