Ahmedgarh, January 16 Accusing the authorities concerned of trying to grab the unutilised grant for the stadium, Mr Jagdish Singh Garcha, SAD MLA who had impressed upon the then Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, to sanction the grant, has urged the police authorities to book the authorities who got removed fittings and fixtures worth lakhs of rupees from the stadium. While the organisers of Amarjit Grewal Memorial Rural Sports Festival, which is organised at Gujjarwal village, are trying to do their best to make the event memorable the building of the stadium is being used as a place for the visitors to ease themselves. Mr Pavitar Singh, patron of the Amarjit Grewal Sports Club, said Mr Grewal and Mr Jagdish Singh Garcha, former Cabinet Minister, had impressed upon Mr Badal to sanction a grant of Rs 25 lakh for the construction of the stadium and MARKFED was entrusted with the execution of the project. The stadium was constructed in 2000 and it was to be handed over either to the sports club of the village or the panchayat. Meanwhile, the club split after the demise of Amarjit Grewal, former Assistant Director Doordarshan, who had played a pivotal role in the development of sports in the area. Mr Lakhwinder Singh
Grewal, Sarpanch of the village, said, “Had the stadium been handed over to the panchayat or the sports club after its completion, we could have maintained it well.” Mr Garcha alleged that the authorities entrusted with the construction of the stadium had not handed it over to the local agencies as they wanted to grab the unutilised grant worth around Rs 2.5 lakh. Mr Garcha urged the higher authorities to investigate the matter and get a theft case registered against the officers who had got the fittings and fixtures of the stadium removed. No official concerned was available for comments.
