The Supreme Court has asked mobile phone companies to explore the possibility of installing jammers in jails. Pappu Yadav has a reason to be upset. He must be thinking that when he would be a legend some day, some publisher might come out with a bestseller like My Phone Calls From Jail-an autobiography by Pappu Yadav or Great SMSs from Beur. It is a separate issue that criminals should not be allowed the facility of using cell phones in jails. But using cellphones has become a nuisance at public places itself. There are several places where mobile phones should be totally banned. Some people exhibit their driving skill while talking on their mobile phones. Others operate their offices while driving. Hospitals, libraries, temples and schools should be no cellphone zone. Even when you go to a restaurant, you should have option between, besides vegetarian or non-vegetarian, smoking or no smoking, a cellphone or no-cellphone area. One of my friends who is a businessman went to console a family who lost a relative. Suddenly his mobile rang. He picked it up and started talking loudly to his client, "Congratulations! Your consignment is ready. We are just loading it on the bus - maal ikdam fresh hai". A grieving relative snatched his cell and said, "Switch it off. We are loading the body on the bus". |
