Mufti fulfils demands of govt employees
Tribune News Service

Jammu, December 16
Accepting all major demands of government employees, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today announced the merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance (DA) with basic pay and also released two pending DA instalments.

The announcement was made by the Chief Minister following a meeting of the Cabinet.

It has been decided to enhance the house rent allowance by 7.5 per cent. This would result in an additional annual burden of Rs 350 crore on the exchequer.

The employees had threatened to go on a strike from December 20 in case their demands were not met. They had observed a two-day strike last month. The government had set up a three-member committee to look into their demands.

It was decided that a separate committee would be constituted to look into the demand for increasing the retirement age to 60 from the existing 58 years.

The Cabinet has also decided to increase the wages of daily-wage employees to Rs 70 from the existing Rs 60. This will be applicable to employees engaged after 1994.

Terming the employees as the vehicles of change of the government, the Chief Minister hoped the decision would instil a sense of dedication and devotion among them.

He said his government had been striving for providing maximum facilities to its employees to ensure work culture and job satisfaction.
