TB awareness camp held
Chandigarh, December 16 Vice-president of the Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) Dharamvir Manchanda appreciated efforts of the health authorities in educating the residents about the disease. Medical officer, RNTCP, Dr Anil Garg said that in the civil hospital more than 500 patients had
completed treatment for TB and 127 patients were on DOTS therapy which
ensures that the entire treatment is completed. |

star in GNPS victory
Chandigarh, December 16 Nikhil hammered 28 runs and later wrecked GMSSS-46 by claiming four wickets. Likewise, Simranjit scored 50 runs and bagged two wickets. Earlier GNPS-36 won the toss and elected to field first. Brief scores: GMSSS-46:

Ishwinder lifted a total weight of 260 kg while Jaspal lifted 245 kg in their category. The overall championship went in favour of Arya College, Ludhiana, followed by SGGS College, Sector 26, Chandigarh at second place. Times of India win A brilliant knock of 74 runs by R P Singh enabled The Times of India XI in beating The Tribune (B) XI by seven wickets to secure a berth in the semi-final of the Hutch Inter-media Cricket Tournament which began here today at DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8. Batting first after winning the toss, the Tribune (B) comprising players from Dainik Tribune and Punjabi Tribune, compiled 159 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Rohit Awasthi played a skipper’s knock by smashing 99 runs off only 62 deliveries. Ramesh Handa chipped in with 12 runs. R.P. Singh claimed three wickets for The Times of India. However, The Times of India easily achieved the target in the 17th over with magnificent contribution from R P Singh who scored a brisk 74 runs off only 46 balls. Bias alleged in cricket
team’s selection
Chandigarh, December 16 According to Mr DS Toor, Professor in charge, Department of Sports, Panjab University, the team was selected after the final selection trials held last evening. Earlier today the confusion prevailed over the non-selection of two players, Vipin and Anurag Malhotra. Both were initially on the waiting list but were asked to appear for special trials held on December 15, along with three more players from Ludhiana. None from five called were selected and instead two boys, earlier kept as stand-byes, were included. Anurag said when the PU authorities were not interested in giving them a chance, why he was invited for the trials. Anurag said he had been representing the PU cricket team in the past also and alleged that a player, Sachin Luthra, of DAV College, Sector 10, was included even though he (Anurag) performed better this session. Anurag further alleged that the team had now three wicket keepers instead of usual practice of having two. Prof Toor said they had selected 16 players on merit and according to the report of coaches. He said two players which were
selected in the team on December 13 had gone to play in some other tournament without informing them and he would initiate a disciplinary action against them. He, however, refused to give photostat copy of the final proforma of the PU Cricket team to be submitted to the host authorities in Delhi. Anurag alleged that instead of 16, the PU had selected 17 players and alleged that this 17th could be Vipin, which was later denied by the PU authorities and coach Girish Bhanot. The 45th inter-house athletics meet of Punjab Public School, Nabha (District Patiala), was held today on the school grounds. Olympian and Padamshree Kamaljit Sandhu Kooner was the chief guest and she was welcomed by the Deputy Headmaster, Ms G Raturi. Senior “Beas House” boys lifted the overall athletic championship trophy The march past trophy was bagged by Senior Jumna House boys. Jagdeep Singh and Sarabjit Kaur were adjudged the best athletes in seniorboys and girls section while Harsangeet Kaur in junior girls, Alamjit Singh and Amandeep Singh in various section of junior boys. MPS boys win yoga championship Shri Aurobindo International School, Patiala, organised an inter-school yoga and chess championship in which 10 schools of the region took part. Students of MPS brought laurels to its school in yoga. Shubham got first place while Samdesh got consolation prize. Ritesh another student of MPS won consolation prize in chess. |

Chandigarh, December 16 The Deputy Commissioner-cum-Excise & Taxation Commissioner, Mr Arun Kumar, informed that the registration procedure along with a proforma of fact-sheet can be obtained from the Excise and Taxation office, Sector 17, Chandigarh, and are also available at the website www.pextax.com and www.chd.nic.in. The Excise and Taxation Commissioner has asked all the registered dealers to submit their forms, complete in all respects, to the Excise and Taxation Office latest by January 15, 2005, so that the new registration number along with the certificate i.e TIN Registration Number or VAT Registration number can be allotted. |
