WORK WISE
ATUL Mehrotra, CEO, Pinnacle BPO City Pvt. Ltd, a company based at Gurgaon, has seen various ups and downs in his career. Starting his career as a management trainee with the Swadeshi Polytex Limited in 1983, he has worked with various companies. After completing his schooling from his Lucknow, he did his postgraduation from Delhi University and then MBA from Amity University. Toughest time in career "In the recent past, I headed a very sensitive position as the Head of Corporate Affairs with Flex Industries. There was a raid on the company by several government agencies on the charges of misdemeanour and our chief executive was put under judicial remand. I was in the thick of things, by virtue of my profile. "My vindication in the fairness of the Indian judicial system was reinforced when after several months of interrogation and our presenting the case, all charges were dropped. During this six-month period, I went through major professional crisis and everyday my friends and well-wishers expected me to quit under duress. I am glad that I did justice to my position and stayed with Flex during its most difficult period. Coping with the crisis "They say that adversity brings out the real character of a human being and I am a complete believer in the credo. If you are able to look at any problem in the face and not succumb to the temptation of taking the easy way out and conceding defeat, nothing can put you down. I believe that I went through "baptism by fire" and am glad to have been proven a survivor. "The fact that I stood by my organisation only added to my reputation and was acknowledged as a major positive to my capabilities. The whole episode was a turning point in my career. My mentor and guide "I have had the privilege of working with some outstanding people, but my role model and mentor is G. Venkataswami, who started his career as a trade unionist and rose to become the Cabinet Minister for Textile and Labour in the P.V. Narasimha Rao Government at the Centre. He is one person whom I easily consider my guru. "I have learnt from him that it is not only the educational qualification, but also the understanding of the ground situation, common sense, that assist one in one's career. Management mantra "Today, I head a team of 600 employees at Pinnacle BPO. We believe that our human capital is our biggest asset and are looking at investing resources to optimise the output. We also believe in charting a growth phase for each individual associated with the company. |
