Start cleanliness drive again: SDM
Our Correspondent

Mandi Ahmedgarh, November 19
The SDM, Malerkotla, has directed the Municipal Committees of this town and Malerkotla to start cleanliness drive by involving local residents. Dr Indu, SDM, said she had received complaints about inadequate cleanliness in the towns. “Though the officials had been advised to launch special drives from November 5 to 15, the desired results could not be achieved due to festival holidays. The committees have now been asked to launch a cleanliness drive with the involvement of councillors and social organisations,” she said.

The SDM stated a meeting of the officials concerned would be held to discuss techniques of solid disposal management soon.

Officials of the local office of the Municipal Council maintained that the problems had been due to staff shortage and expansion of the area. Instead of increasing the strength of safai karamcharis, the authorities had reduced their strength.

However, residents blamed infighting among councillors for the unhygienic conditions of the town.
