Beekeepers’ problems
discussed
Ludhiana, November 8 Dr Pardeep Kumar
Chhuneja, an Entomologist, shared some recent problems of beekeepers, including reports of varroa mite and the operations to be adopted in the coming month. He also shared the current global wholesale prices of honey from Indian and other Asian countries available on the internet. Dr Chhuneja also cautioned the beekeepers against the use of antibiotics and other chemicals in honey bee colonies. Dr Gurjant Singh
Gatoria, senior entomologist, discussed the methods of managing varroa and stressed on making colonies stronger rather than going after numbers. Dr Gurmeet Singh from Agmark said that getting Agmark for agricultural products is a very simple process and gave tips on honey marketing. Mr J.S. Tiwana talked about direct marketing, which will go a long way in employment generation. Proposing a vote of thanks, Mr H.S.

Vigilance week observed
Ludhiana, November 8 Students were briefed about corruption , its causes and factors facilitating it. The students were made aware of their rights and duties as consumers. Students of Classes III, IV and V participated in group discussion, while students of Classes VI, VII and VIII participated in declamation contests, quiz contest, extempore speeches and group discussion. Students of classes were given a brief outline about the objectives of celebrating the Vigilance Awareness Week. The students eagerly participated in answering prepared set of questions. They participated in slogan-writing contest and thought of some interesting ones like-Corruption -a big problem with no reduction’ and ‘Corruption is the backbone of India’s
weekness.’ |
Master Tara Singh College holds
anti-pollution rally
Ludhiana, November 8 Prior to the commencement of the rally ,the chief guest, Mr Sharanjit S. Dhillon, distributed prizes among participants. He delivered a lecture on the importance of controlling the pollution and preserving the ecology to students. He also donated Rs 1lakh for the developmental project. Mr Kulwant Singh,
Xen, PPCB, also delivered a lecture on the preventive and remedial measures to check pollution. Dr Madanjit Kaur
Sahota, Principal of the college , stressed on the need for celebrating cracker free Divali.Mr Swaran Singh, president, college managing committee, proposed a vote of thanks. Students took a pledge to usher in a cleaner, greener and healthier tomorrow by planting saplings and keeping the environment clean.The two-day programme culminated in anti-pollution rally in which students marched through Deepak Cinema, Damoriya Bridge, Kailash Cinema, Dandi Swami, Police line, Kitchlu Nagar, Ferozepore Road, Nanaksar and returned to the college via Jagraon Bridge, Clock Tower and Mata Rani Chowk. Mr Sharanjit Singh flagged off the rally. The programme was organised as a part of the ongoing Vigyan Chetna Year— 2004 in collaboration with the Punjab Pollution Control Board, Patiala.

School organises Divali mela
Ludhiana, November 8 "Fantasy Fete—2004" was organised at Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, here yesterday to raise funds for the completion of the new school auditorium. It was inaugurated by Mr Rajinder Gupta, Managing Director, Abhishek Industries Ltd. Students, parents and well wishers of the school as well as children turned up in their best to support the noble cause for which the fete was organised. More than 40 food and games stalls were set up on the occasion.Tambola, music on request, rides, and computers games stalls attracted a huge crowd.Old students of the school had put up a stall to create a database of the school alumni.Mr Onkar Singh Pahwa, Managing Director, Avon Cycles Ltd, presided over the felicitation and closing ceremony. The Principal, Sister Maria Leena, thanked the chief guests, the district administration, parents and teachers for their efforts to make the fete a grand success. |

State to host Asian
ball pool tourney
Ludhiana, November 8 He said this while speaking at the 4th National ONGC Ball Pool Championship here today. He said that the State Government was giving main stress to strengthen the sports infrastructure in the state, so that, the players of international level could be produced in different games by imparting them good training. The Minister was addressing a function in connection with the ONGC 4th National Ball Pool Championship organised by Punjab Billiards and Snooker Association at Satul Club here. He announced a grant of Rs 50,000/- for the association. |
