Schoolchildren participate in salad making

Ludhiana, October 29
An Inter-House Salad-Making Competition was organised at New Senior Secondary School here today. The competition was divided into two categories-a) salad-making by individual students and b) by group students.

In the first category 32 students participated while in the second 76 students participated.The students had brought seasonal vegetables like carrot, radish, cucumbers, onions etc and also had brought pineapples papaya oranges etc. To make it more interesting some students had brought sprouted dal, jellies etc Ms Navoreet, Ms Pooja and Ms Simta and Ms Rachna were the judges.

The results in individual category are as follows: Parvinder Kaur of 12 first, Shewta Khanna of 11 second, Tarun Deep Kaur & Dolly Handa of 11 third, Neha of 12 and Richa Sood of 12 got consolation prices.

Group Category: Anumeet and Gurleen of 11 first, Deepika and Reema of 11 second, Gaurav and Saurav of Xthird. The consolation prize went to Prerna and Kamal of 12 and Kamalpreet and Ramandeep of X.

Tanjore paintings a big draw

Ludhiana, October 29
A three-day exhibition of Tanjore paintings, which opened at Bath Collections on the New DMC road turned out to be a big draw here today. The collection of Tanjore art creations, embellished with pure gold foil and embedded with semi-precious gems and stones, attracted visitors evoking enthusiastic response to the exhibition, a first of its kind in the city.

According to Suresh Juneja and Vinod Juneja, directors of the company, the paintings, mostly of gods and goddesses, were creations of Delhi-based artist Rachna Aggarwal, known for Tanjore paintings.

The organisers further informed that the paintings were done on canvass. Layers of paste made from glue and limestone were molded and applied to create a three-dimensional effect.

Thereafter, the paintings were crafted with relief work, embellished with pure gold foils and embedded with precious and semi-precious gems and stones.

AP, WB circles win overall trophies

Ludhiana, October 29
Andhra Pradesh circle gathered 113 points to lift the overall trophy in the men’s section while in the women’s section, defending champions, West Bengal secured 98 points to retain the trophy in the 20th All-India Postal Athletics and Cycling Championship which concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University here today.

In the men’s section, Gujarat circle got 61 points to finish runner-up while Kerala circle accumulated 28 points to get the second spot in the women’s section. Mumtaz Khatun (24 points) of West Bengal circle and Jumma Mushangiri (31 points) of Gujrat circle were declared the best athletes among the women and men participants, respectively.

Mr R.P. Mittal, DIG, PAP gave away prizes to the winners.

Final day’s results: Men 100m- Jumma B Mushangiri of Gujrat circle 1, Arpit M D Cruz of Gujrat circle 2 and Debanand Patel of Orissa circle 3; 1500 m- Babu Ghosh of West Bengal circle 1, Ch Vekateshwar Rao of Andhra Pradesh 2 and Lal Singh of APS circle 3; 4x400 m relay- Tamilnadu circle 1, Andhra Pradesh circle 2 and APS circle 3; 4x100 m relay- Gujrat circle 1, West Bengal circle 2 and Tamilnadu circle 3; 100 m (women)- Binutaz Khatun of West Bengal circle 1, Mumtaz Khatun of West Bengal circle 2 and Sugandhi Jayaseelan of Tamil Nadu circle 3.

School athletics meet concludes

Samrala, October 29
Athletic tournaments of zone level came to a close here at the Malwa College Stadium. Principal and zone convener Mr Swaran Singh said Under-14 (Boys) Government Senior Secondary School, Manupur, was the winner, under-14 (girls) Government High School Takhran got first position, in under-17 (Boys and girls) Government High School, Takhran got overall trophy, Under-19 (Boys) Government Senior Secondary School, Bhaini Sahib, was the winner and under-19 (girls) Government High School, Takhran, was the champion.

President of the Malwa Sports association, Malkiat Singh Dhillon donated a refreshments worth Rs 25,000/- for the players. On the last day of the tournament Dr Parminder Singh, Principal of Malwa College Bondli-Samrala was the chief guest.
