NGO wins laurels for anti-cancer endeavours

Chandigarh, October 12
Sahayta Cancer Sahyog, an NGO working as an emotional prop-house for cancer patients, has received an award from Indian Cancer Society, Delhi, for outstanding contribution in spreading information regarding cancer and betterment of such patients and their families.

The award was received by Ms Neelu Tuli, president of the organisation, from Mrs Renuka Chaudhry, Minister of Tourism, at a function organised by Indian Cancer Sahyog, a unit of Indian Cancer Society in New Delhi, on October 9.

They had also organised a seminar on the topic "A Woman's Body , her Heart, her Mind-How Women Cope with Cancer."

Sahayta Cancer Sahyog is an emotional support group, which provides holistic help to people afflicted by cancer. We are working in collaboration with the doctors of PGI. We sit amongst the patients and based on their needs, we have designed certain projects so that their lives can be improved.

Besides giving them much needed emotional support, informationregarding the disease and all the practical help they need, we also sponsor the treatment of these patients referred to us by the doctors of PGI.

Chandigarh, October 12
The SGGS College, Sector 26, Chandigarh, today clinched the Panjab University Inter-College Boxing Championship by securing 34 points. DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh attained the second spot with 27 points.

In various events held, in Light Fly Weight upto 48 kg, Aakar Chauhan of the DAV College was the winner.

In Bantam Weight ( 51-54 kg), Sohan Singh of theSGGS College, Sector 26 won the event while in the Feather Weight, Mohd Habib also of the SGGS College got first place.

Dedar Singh of the DAV College won the Welter Weight (63.5 kg-67 kg), Ajay Singh also of DAV College bagged Light Middle weight title.

In Light Heavy Weight event, Gurjeet Singh was the winner, Arihant Kumar and Kanish Awasthi both of DAV College won the Heavy Weight and Super Heavy Weight titles respectively.

St. Peter’s Academy steal show

The students of St Peter's Academy, Patiala, Rupinder and Ankita, Patiala stole the limelight at the High Jump and Cricket Ball Throw events, respectively, in the eighth Inter-School Athletic meet organised by the Shimla-Chandigarh Educational Society here today at St Anne's School, Sector 32.

In this five day meet, 11 schools from the region are taking part. Earlier last evening, Revered Dr Gerald John Mathias, Bishop of Shimla- Chandigarh Diocese inaugurated the meet.

The chief guest asked the participants to take part with sportsman's spirit. Yesterday, the events could not be held due to heavy downpour.

The other winners in various events were, Prabjot, Roma, Radhika, Manpreet, Ramanjeet, Manjot, Kiran, Ankita, Aanchal Sood, Roopika Sethi, Parvinder Singh, Sukhdev, Baljinder, Amandeep, Durgesh Nandan and Rachit Bhasin.

30 probables get nod for Rajinder Goel Trophy

Chandigarh, October 12
The Chandigarh Cricket Association has selected 30 probables from more than 100 cricketers for the Haryana State Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Rajinder Goel Trophy.

According to Mr Surinder Singh , the coaching camp for the same will begin tomorrow at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, grounds. The timings will be 5.30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The probables are Pawan Kumar, Amit Prashar, Sandeep,Yuvraj, Anupam Gambhir, Akhitab, Karamjeet, Vikrant Gupta, Ashwini, Tanush, Satnaam Singh, Nitish Vasudeva, Shyam Singh, Gurveer, Ankur, Harmit, Karandeep, Sourav Malik, Sourav Kumar, Harsh Chopra, Vinod Kumar, Yatin Sharma, Mukul, Harjyot, Prashant Gaurav, Sandeep Mittal, Nitin, Deepak, Sachin and Anmol Sharma.
