Gopala In this album devoted to Lord Krishna, Shubha Mudgal, a respected name in classical singing, sings bhajans written by saint-poets like Meerabai, Nand Das and Kavi Narayan Agarwal "Narayan". There are also several traditional bhajans like "Kadamb tar thaade hain piya pyari `85" and "Chola mil mangal gaavahu maai`85" The album opens with "Gokul ki Panihaari`85" (Nand Das) and closes with "Tan-man tarpe`85." (Kavi Narayan Agarwal "Narayan"). Her rendering of these temple texts show varied musical influences ranging from the folk music of the Braj region to thumri and haveli sangeet. The album transports one to Krishna temples of northern India. Shubha Mudgal presents all emotions with finesse. Sound Scapes: Music
of the Valleys This is the latest Music Today release in the Sound-Scapes series – Valley. Sound Scapes is originally a series of four albums (Mountains, Seas, Deserts and Rivers), which were composed by maestros like Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Bhaskar Chandavarkar and Zakir Hussain. Valley is an extension of the brand Sound Scapes, featuring music composed by flute legend Hari Prasad Chaurasia and santoor wizard Shiv Kumar Sharma. As the title suggests, Blissful Dawn conveys the purity of a new daybreak on the horizon. This refreshing feeling is portrayed through the solitary notes of the flute with an ambient sound. The pace of the track is slow, suiting the time of the day. — ASC This feature was published on September 11, 2004 |
