IT is high time that a parallel Olympics be held for the athletes taking dope. The performance of the athletes in Athens is being criticised widely. With their heads hanging in shame, people are demanding the setting up of a high level committee to probe into the Athens debacle. Chances are that the performance of the fact-finding committee may be even worse than that of the athletes. Some are suggesting stringent action against the players who were found with samples of the banned drug in their urine. I wonder what all the fuss is about. Why get into the hassle of blame, accusations and counter accusations? Why not have a new legitimised Olympics and call it the Dope Olympics. Only those players will be allowed to participate who have a minimum specified level of steroids in their blood. In these Olympics, winners will certainly be tested for dopes. Those found without drugs will be stripped off their medals unceremoniously. Coaches, who are now being sacked, would then be honoured for training the players with the proper dose of steroids. Players will be heard discussing among them, "We are so lucky to be trained by Mr`85. He is so up to date with the latest international drug-taking techniques". A drug Olympic Committee would also be set up to think and devise new categories of competition-like the light drug weightlifting competition or the heavy drug boxing championship. Referees will also have had a minimum level of drugs to deliver fair judgments. When I completed this article and sent it to the editor of the Sunday Tribune, he called me and said, "Jaspalji, I think you need to undergo a medical examination. It seems that you have written the article under the influence of some intoxication!" |
