Hizbul ultra killed
Jammu, September 3
A self-styled area commander of Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit was gunned down by security forces in Udhampur district and ultra hideouts were busted at several places in Jammu and Kashmir last night, official sources said today.

Policeman deserts STF post
Jammu, September 3
A policeman, Mohammad Sharief, today deserted the special task force post in the terrorist-prone area of Ind in Gool and fled with four rifles, five magazines, 250 live cartridges and two hand grenades.

General Cosgrove flies over LoC       
Jammu, September 3
General Peter Cosgrove, chief of the Australian defence forces, today flew over the Line of Control in Rajouri for an aerial reconnaisance of the area and met the local commanders of the Army.

Hizbul ultra killed

Jammu, September 3
A self-styled area commander of Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit was gunned down by security forces in Udhampur district and ultra hideouts were busted at several places in Jammu and Kashmir last night, official sources said today.

Troops launched a search and cordoning off operation in Kharag area of the district and in the encounter that followed Hizbul militant Mushtaq Ahmed, alias Farooq, was killed, they said.

One AK rifle, two magazines, 23 rounds and some other articles were found from the spot, they added.

Security forces busted a militant hideout at Chmalwas in Doda district and recovered a plastic explosive, two detonators, 123 rounds, four IEDs, seven time-pencils and some explosive material, the sources said.

Another hideout was busted in Solian area of the district and a Chinese grenade, one AK rifle, two detonators, a radio set and one transistor were recovered from the spot, they said. — PTI

Policeman deserts STF post

Jammu, September 3
A policeman, Mohammad Sharief, today deserted the special task force (STF) post in the terrorist-prone area of Ind in Gool and fled with four rifles, five magazines, 250 live cartridges and two hand grenades.

A special team under a DSP has been set up to search the police official.

Ind is a sensitive village that has been attacked by terrorists many times.

As many as 14 persons were shot dead by ultras some time ago.

The STF post has been a constant target of the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the security forces in an encounter killed a self-styled commander of Hizbul Mujahiden, Mushtaq Ahmed, at Kharag in Udhampur district.

General Cosgrove flies over LoC

Jammu, September 3
General Peter Cosgrove, chief of the Australian defence forces, today flew over the Line of Control in Rajouri for an aerial reconnaisance of the area and met the local commanders of the Army.

General Cosgrove accompanied by his wife, Ms Lynne Cosgrove, and Col. Campbell, also visited the headquarters of the Northern Command at Udhampur where he interacted with Lieut-Gen. Hari Prasad, GOC-in-C of the Northern Command.

The visiting General was briefed about the situation in J&K.

Thereafter he flew to the Rajouri sector and returned to Delhi after meeting senior officers of the Northern Command.

Two women rescued from mosque

Poonch, September 3
Security personnel this evening rescued two women who were held hostage by militants for two hours in a mosque at Sheendhara village in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here.

The ultras managed to escape into a forest near the mosque as a gunbattle with security personnel raged.

A jawan was killed when a group of militants forced their entry in the mosque after a brief encounter. — PTI
