DREAM THEME
Magnetic appeal
Vinaya K. Manhas

The magnet is a metal with the property to attract other metals, or to be attracted to them. In a dream, it is this property that it represents.

As per Indian thought, to see many magnets in a dream is not a good omen. It predicts difficulties and obstacles in the near future. If you are not careful you shall soon find yourself trapped in a net of thorns. Should you see yourself using a magnet in your dream, it is indicative of a selfish streak in you. You shall use people to achieve your own ends, making yourself very unpopular.

As per western thought, dreams of a magnet denote your straying from the path of righteousness and honour to achieve your ends. If the dreamer is a man it denotes his being led astray by a woman. Should a woman be the dreamer then it predicts wealth and a secure future for her.

Seen from the point of view of a psychoanalyst, magnets in dreams symbolise the intrinsic powers within you to attract. The energy lies inert unless and until you desire it to be activated. It portrays an intrinsic ability to attract and repel others. It is suggestive of the dreamers’ charisma which can be put to varying use.

A man of 39 would often see a huge magnet hanging in the centre of the house. It would pull people towards it and they would get stuck on it till someone pulled them away. The man would hide behind the furniture and doors to avoid getting stuck to the magnet. Many a time, he would feel the pull of the magnet but resisted it by latching on to some object. With difficulty he got out of the house and only after that did he feel some relief.

The man, for some reason, felt constrained and suffocated in his house. The pull of the magnet and his struggle to avoid it portrayed his constant need to get away. Unfortunately, he was unable to do much to change his home environment, hence the recurrence of the dreams.
