Ludhiana, May 28
Following a complaint regarding the illegal storing of fire crackers in a residential area, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Verma, has written to the Joint Chief Controller of Explosives at Faridabad, recommending the cancellation of license of Bodh Raj, a cracker dealer.

The shopkeeper had stored 400 kg of crackers in a residential area, posing a threat to lives of hundreds of residents. The crackers were seized following a raid after a tip-off.

Mr Verma said he had asked the SDM Ludhiana(East) to conduct a raid on the premises of Bodh Raj. The raid was conducted through Tehsildar Ludhiana East and Naib Tehsildar of Koom Kalan and 400 kg of fireworks were found. Bodh Raj produced a letter from the Joint Chief Controller of Explosives, Faridabad, regarding the grant of provisional permission to store 100 kg of fireworks and 500 kg of Chinese crackers.

The Deputy Commissioner, in a letter to the Joint Controller, has urged him not to issue any provisional license or permission to anybody within the limits of the municipal corporation, for the storage of fireworks without obtaining a no objection certificate from the district administration in future.

He appealed to residents to provide information about those storing crackers in residential areas.
