Allahabad institute to open centre in city soon

Ludhiana, May 28
Allahabad Agricultural Institute has planned to open a distance education centre for two courses — bachelor in medical laboratory technology and bachelor in radiology and imaging technology, in the city soon.

The Dean of the university, Prof Henry Shepherd along with other officers paid a visit today to various paramedical centres and finally selected a centre named Swami Vivekanand Institute of Paramedical Sciences situated on the Bindraban road, Civil Lines, Ludhiana.

The Director of the centre, Ms Madhu Vij, said now the students who have completed one-year diploma course could attend the second year of degree course and can transfer their diploma to a degree course.

Dairy training course ends

A 10-day specialised dairy training course, organised by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension, Punjab Agricultural University, concluded here today.

As many as 19 trainees from different parts of the country participated in the course. Experts from the college of Veterinary Science delivered lectures on various aspects of dairy farming. The farmers were advised to plan in relation to land, funds and availability of loans, etc .

They were advised to keep high-yielding dairy animals in herds. Experts advised the farmers to grow leguminous and non-leguminous fodder together and that, too the recommended varieties only for a better yield.

Dr A .S. Sandhu, Director or Extension Education, PAU, asked the farmers to adopt Dairy farming on a commercial scale as a diversification tool in agriculture. Dr K. B. Singh, Professor-cum-Head, Department of veterinary and animal husbandry Extension, gave suggestions for increasing profitability in dairy farming. Prof R. S. Sahota, proposed the vote of thanks.

Man convicted of rash driving

Mr Sunil Arora, Additional Sessions Judge-cum-presiding officer of the fast-track court has sentenced Parmod Shah of Railway Colony to two years’ imprisonment on the charge of killing a cyclist, Sahibdin, while driving his vehicle rashly.

The accused was booked under Sections 279, 427 and 304-A, IPC, on May 23, on the statement of Bikker Singh. Later, the Judicial Magistrate, Mr R.K. Sharma, committed the case to the sessions courts, with the observation that prima facie the case fell under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

“I am of the view that the initial act of the accused, as a result of which the accused suffered injuries, falls under the definition of 304-A, IPC, but the subsequent act of the accused in taking injured in his vehicle on the pretext for admitting him to the Civil Hospital and leaving him on the way, resulting in the death of Sahibdin, falls under the definition of offence under Section 304, IPC, Mr Sharma had said in his order.

The accused was charged under Section 304, IPC, by the sessions court but no offence under this Section was proved with the testimonies of prosecution witnesses. After hearing the arguments, the fast-track court came to the conclusion that it was a case of accident.
