Ludhiana, May 25
Quest Infosys and Invasions, Regional Learning and Facilitation Centres (RLFC) of Punjab Technical University organised a mega cultural festival of their students at GGN Khalsa College here today.
More than 3,000 students studying in 38 learning centres spread in the districts of Ludhiana, Moga , Sangrur, Ferozepore, Faridkot and Fatehgarh Sahib took part in the day-long festival. All the PTU learning centres offering programmes in information technology, paramedical technologies, fashion technology, hotel management and tourism took part in the mega event.
The function was inaugurated by the Director-General of Police, Punjab, Dr A.A. Siddiqui, who graced the opening of the festival as the chief guest. Welcoming Dr Siddiqui, Mr D.S. Sekhon, Director of Quest Infosys, said such an even was being organised for the first time for the distance education students in this region. He said this was a step towards making distance education a complete learning system that not only involved serious education but also all round development of the students.
Students came forward in big numbers to take part in various cultural events like solo dance, solo song, skit, group dance, modelling, parody, rangoli, IT quiz, flower arrangement, poster making, just a minute, mehndi and bhangra. Fashion technology students also presented a colourful fashion show.
Academic awards were also given to the toppers of previous semesters exams of various classes. These awards were given by Mr Malkiat Singh Birmi, Minister for Jails, Housing and Urban Development, Punjab, who graced the occasion as the chief guest for the academic awards distribution ceremony.
Representatives from various industries and training centres were also present on the occasion and had put up their stalls at the campus. The event was sponsored by several companies. The Tribune was one of the media sponsors.
Several prominent personalities of the city were also invited as judges for various events presented by the students. Prizes were given to the winners and the runners up of various event as declared by the judges. The Vice-Chancellor of the PTU, Dr S K Salwan, was the chief guest for the prize distribution and closing ceremony. Mr S.K. Bhatia, Director, Distance Education Department, was the guest of honour. In the end, Mr Sekhon thanked all the dignitaries, judges, sponsoring organisations, individuals, students and staff of learning centres for their continuous efforts and support.
