Mungbean workshop at PAU

Ludhiana, May 21
The final workshop under the DFID-AVRDC mungbean project will be held from May 27 to 31 on the PAU campus. Scientists from the UK, the USA, the AVRDC, Taiwan, the ADB, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, the ICRISAT, the ICAR, New Delhi, the IIPR, Kanpur, and farmers from Haryana, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab will participate in the workshop.

The progress of the project will be reviewed and future planning will be formulated. It may be recalled that two years ago, Punjab Agricultural University, had got an international mungbean project. The project is funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), UK. It aims at ‘Improving income and nutrition by incorporating mungbean in cereals in the Indo-Gangetic plains of South Asia.’

DPI(S) given farewell

Principals of government, aided and private schools of the city organised a farewell party for Mr Sohan Lal, DPI (Secondary) at RS Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, here today.

Ms Usha Sidhu, Principal, DIET, Jagraon, congratulated him on his appointment as the state project officer of the Sarb Sikhya Abhiyan for two years. Mr Bachitar Singh, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Samrala, praised Mr Sohan Lal for his works.

Mr Ranjit Singh, Headmaster of Government High School, Salem Tabri, wished the DPI good luck for his new posting. Mr O.P. Arora, Principal of Nauhria Mal Jain Senior Secondary School, praised him for improving the standards of school education in the state.

Mr M.R. Mehta, Principal of BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, thanked him for visiting the city before superannuation. Others present on the occasion were Mr Avtar Singh, Circle Education Officer, Nabha, Ms Kamaljit Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar, and Ms Joginder Kaur of Government High School (Number 5).
