Three get five-year RI in fake currency case New Delhi, May 18 The convicted are Pankaj (32), TA Krishnamurthy (42), and Mahender Pal (30). The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on each convicted person, who were arrested after fake currency notes were seized from them in September 2001. Another accused, Deepak, who is a proclaimed offender in the case, is still absconding. According to the police, a shopkeeper in Pitampura DDA market apprehended Deepak after he gave five fake notes of the denomination of Rs 100 each for a travel bag. After the accused was handed over to the police, search revealed that he was carrying fake notes of various denominations amounting to Rs 19,500. Following disclosures made by him, raids were conduced and others were arrested from various places in the Capital. Pankaj, who was the second to be arrested, took the police party to a house in Rohini where Krishnamurthy was arrested and 5,000 notes of denomination of Rs 500 each were recovered from him.

Delhi Police SI gets RI for bribe New Delhi, May 18 Special CBI Judge Pratibha Rani also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on 59-year-old Hari Singh Yadav, who had demanded Rs 5,000 from Gurcharan Singh in July 1998 for not implicating his sister and her husband. According to CBI, Gurcharan’s sister Harbans Kaur and her husband, who lived in Mehrauli, had allegedly been implicated in a false case by the SI who later demanded a bribe to help them out. Gurcharan, who settled the matter for Rs 1,500, lodged a complaint with the CBI, which arrested the cop while accepting the amount. Kaur submitted that earlier the police had refused to register a complaint against her neighbour who had stabbed her tenant in June 1998. She alleged that she did not pursue the matter after they demanded a bribe for registering a case. Later a case was registered against her and her husband and the SDM even issued a notice to them. |
Sunshine colours come alive on stage Mango, a fashion label recently celebrated a year in Delhi. The celebrations included a show presenting the summer collection choreographed by Marc Robinson and the glamorous Pooja Bedi. The summer line is divided into seven different themes. ‘Cool aqua’ is a complete knit look in aqua with capri pants, wide stripes, bolero jackets and tennis dresses. ‘Sunshine colours’ are the citrus shades of lime and yellow and floral prints. ‘Acid pastels’ is a collection of comfortable and fresh clothes with simple lines in pastel hues of rose and water in colours such as orange and pistachio. ‘Elegant black’ is black with a touch of light, ‘tropical safari’ attempts to combine military garments, exclusively in khakis with very feminine styles of lace trims, tops embroidered in purple and lilac and fuchsia accessories. ‘Motel Road’ is an intriguing part of the collection comprising cowboy aesthetics with biker, there are T shirts with positional patterns, bangles and wooden clogs, all reminiscent of the Arizona desert. ‘Athletic beach collection’ has shocking colours like lime and fuchsia in stripes, Hawaiian flowers and motifs and recalls the look of the 60s and the 70s. |
Self-discovery through colour combinations In Benetton’s own words the summer collection is all about “different combinations of colours, materials, genres and styles come together this season to unleash a road to self discovery”. Cotton, linen, georgette, crepe silk and denims all find a place in the collection, which has been divided into themes for both men and women. For women the themes include, ‘Grey’s mood’ sleek clothes in the form of ruffled shirts, pajamas and seamless tricot tops with crochet details. A whole new twist has been given to the 30s look. Bleached and dusty pastels blend together with unusual harmony in ‘Fashion Work’. Washed heavy-duty look cargos and multi pocketed canvas shirts and crochet halters are included. ‘Ship cruise’ is a small but ultra classic mix full of blues, reds and whites in cotton while ‘Urban Kenya’ features Africa, brick, red, spicy orange and reflects a mood of relaxed opulence. ‘Women Sport’ is for the young at heart. Drawstring capris, cargos and jerseys in key colours of red, navy and white. ‘Hip Hop Generation’ and ‘East Hampton’ are for the strong and aggressive and for those who prefer a simple but tasteful approach. For the men, ‘Black and White’ includes textured dobby shirts in vibrant checks and stripes coordinates, ‘College’ has tees and shorts and drawstrings with zippered embellishments. ‘Military’ marks the triumph of functionality and the primary theme colours include sage, blue, olive and other earthy tones. ‘Urban Nomads’ include the colonial colours of beige, ecru and dirty blues, and clothes have a carefully achieved worn out look. ‘Peace’ has slub effect cotton and linens for shirts and printed tees and drawstring bottoms. A diamond caravan will travel between various Tanishq outlets in the Capital between May 15 and 30. The caravan will showcase several collections of the Tanishq brand, including the ‘Aria’, ‘Dewdrops’ and ‘Dancing Diamonds’. According to officials at Tanishq, the diamond caravan will provide customers with an opportunity to view under one roof a whole range of jewellery. Desert Trail for summer ‘Desert Trail’, ‘Energy’ and ‘Romantica’ are the themes for the Buddy Davis summer collection. While the first is an outdoors-urban collection, the last exudes comfort. The desert trail includes trendy multifunctional cargos, shorts, washed look cotton tees, camouflage prints, textured indigos, over dyed shirts and drawstring trousers. The energy collection comprises block-printed shirts, yarn dyed checks and stripes, marijuana prints, polo tees, denim trousers, cotton ikat tops, flat knits and cargo capris. Exuding comfort and sensuality is the romantic collection with its georgette tops, feeder stripes, embroidered kurtas, textured cotton tops and halters with beadwork.
‘Sophistic colours’ for the season L’Oreal’s summer collection has introduced ‘sophistic colours’ for the season. They offer “new textures and extraordinary shade combinations are encouraged to create the point of difference, heighten creativity and personalised look”. Western collection for men Diwan Saheb has unveiled its formal western collection in linen for men this summer. The collection includes short shirts, embroidered shirts and linen suits with and without accessories. A well-known entertainment company AMGF Intercorp is all set to organise FMCG Awards 2003 on May 28 at Siri Fort Auditorium. Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh will inaugurate the function. According to its chairman, Mr Ajai B. Kumar, the award function is aimed at encouraging popular brands. The jury panel, which consist of eminent personalities from the glamour world, will select the winners on the basis of consumer poll. Outlining the motive behind this unique mega event, he said, the effort is to initiate a project where consumers are given the right to choose their favourite brand.
