Homoeopathic chemists seek directorate

Ludhiana, May 16
The Northern Indian Chemist Association has demanded a separate directorate for homoeopathy for the upliftment of this system of medicine. This resolution was passed in the annual general house meeting of the association held on the premises of Lord Mahavira Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital here today.

In another resolution passed in the meeting, it was demanded that the uniform rate of octori should be levied throughout the state as at present different cities charge different octroi on the same material.

After the meeting Dr Subhash Jain of Jalandhar was unanimously elected president of the association here today.

The press secretary of the association, Mr Kanwarpreet Singh, said members from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh attended the meeting. The participants included Dr S.P. Jain, Dr Jinesh Jain, Dr Kanwerpreet Singh, Dr Gurpreet Singh and Dr Aabinandan Jain.

Mr Bhupinder Jain presented accounts for the past two years while other office-bearers elected in the meeting included Dr Kamaljit Singh of Jalandhar as general secretary and Dr Vir Devi of Amritsar as cashier. The newly elected president will announce his new executive committee and programme for the next two years in the coming days.

Adhiraj rules the pool

Ludhiana, May 16
Adhiraj Sharma, a student of Class V of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, hogged the limelight by adding four more gold medals to his kitty in the boy’s group IV in the Ludhiana District Swimming Championship for the sub-junior and junior boys and girls, which concluded here today. Yesterday Adhiraj had bagged one gold and one silver medal.

Today, he continued with his sterling performance, clinching four gold medals (50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle, 50 m breaststroke and 50 m butterfly). Another lad, who drew attention in the meet, was Bikramjeet Singh, a student of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Udham Singh Nagar. He won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

In the junior section, Government Model School, PAU, with 83 points bagged overall championship, while KVM School with 44 points finished runner-up in the boys category. In the girls’ section, Sacred Heart School, Sarabha Nagar, collected 43 points to lift the title and the second spot went to KVM School, which secured 22 points.

In the sub-junior category, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, accumulated 32 points to emerge as champions in the boys’ section, while DAV School with 23 points finished at second spot. In the girls’section, GNPS with 75 points bagged the title in the boys’ section, while Sacred Heart School, BRS Nagar, scored 37 points and had to content with the second spot.

Dr Ashok Puri, president, Lions Club, Ludhiana, gave away the prizes to the winners.

Cricket tourney

The PAU Club and the Sports Club registered victories in their respective matches of the first Instant Cricket Trophy Tournament being organised by the College of Agriculture Club, PAU, at the Punjab Agricultural University grounds here today.

All players were required to bowl one over each in the match.
