In art, ‘look beyond the lines’
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, May 12
For Kiran Soni Gupta, a senior bureaucrat posted in Bikaner, art is an expression of the soul. She believes, “Art is the manifestation of man’s soul and reflection of human identity.”

She will be putting up an exhibition of her paintings, “Desert Symphony,” at Satluj Club here from May 14 to 17. It will be inaugurated by the Governor, Justice O.P. Verma.

She says no art can fully express itself if we look at only what it depicts literally, “one must search beyond the lines, patterns, notes, etc”. She maintains that in the modern era, art is playing a dominant role in bringing about social change.

In her opinion, the language of art is such that it establishes immediate relationships between civilisations.

“Desert Symphony” is a collection of her paintings that mostly depict life in the deserts of Rajasthan, where she has been working for past 20 years. She has travelled extensively in the state and held various administrative positions, which gave provided her an insight into that life.
