150 patients examined at camp

Chandigarh, May 2
At least 150 patients were examined today at a free gynaecology and obstetrics check-up camp organised by Mukat Hospital and Heart Institute, Sector 34, here by Dr Gurdeep Kaur, former head of the department, Sector 16 General Hospital.

A daughter of the late former President Giani Zail Singh, she would run the OPD at the hospital on a regular basis till June 1, according to Dr Ravi Inder Singh, medical director of the hospital.

ITBP in semis of six-a-side hockey

Chandigarh, May 2
ITBP, CISF, Wanders Club and Rock Rovers Club made it to the last four of the second Dharam Singh Memorial six-a-side hockey tournament at the Sector 18 hockey stadium, here today.

In the two matches played under floodlights, ITBP got the better of Spartan Club 23-11, with half-time score of 9-6. A Nag of ITBP was the top scorer with 11 goals, followed by Virender, who scored four goals.

In the second tie, Wanders Club had a drawn match with Air Force XI. Till half-time, Wanders Club maintained a lead of 8-3. Navdeep of Wanders Club was the top scorer with six goals.

Simer runners-up

Local tennis players Simer and Mehak among girls and Navinder Pal Singh and Gurmohit Singh among boys stole the limelight in the AITA talent series tennis tournament which concluded last evening at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

In the girls under-18 section, Simer of Chandigarh remained runner- up and she lost to Harpreet Gill of Madhya Pradesh with score being 6-3, 3-6, 2-6. Earlier in the semifinal, Simer played a valiant game in downing Aishwarya of Madhya Pradesh with score being 6-7(4-7), 7-6(7-5), 6-0. In the quarterfinal, Simer defeated Aradhna Powar of Madhya Pradesh 6-1, 6-2.

In the girls under-14 section, Mehak was number two when she lost to Aishwarya of Madhya Pradesh in the final with score being 6-3, 3-6, 3-6. In the semifinal, Mehak defeated third seed Parvati Vijayam of Kerala 6-1,6-2 while in the quarter-final, Mehak beat Vasumati of Andhra Pradesh, top seed, 6-1, 6-2.

In the boys under-18 event, Navinder Pal Singh of Chandigarh got the better of Raj Kanwar Singh of Chandigarh 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. In the under-14 boys section, Gurmohit of Chandigarh defeated Partik Patel 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. In under 18-boys doubles, Navinder Pal and Raj Kanwar of Chandigarh bagged the title while in boys under-14 section, Gurmohit and Anmol Ladhar, also of Chandigarh, clinched the title.
