I have learnt that Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was very happy that Virender Sehwag had got married. Not because he was the vichola, the middleman who arranged the marriage, but because he hopes that Sehwag will cool down (thanda pad jayega) after his marriage. Shoaib seems to think that a person loses vigour after marriage and hopes that Sehwag will no longer hit him for boundaries. Perhaps this is why our esteemed President and Prime Minister have preferred to remain bachelors. Arun Jaitley, our Law Minister, furnished his bungalow for Sehwag’s wedding. However, no one should make the mistake of assuming that Arun Jaitley has not converted his kothi into a marriage hall. He only offered the use of his premises to his friend Sehwag. The BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya congratulated Sehwag and said he hoped the couple would complete a century of togetherness. When they complete 100 years of marriage, they would have actually spent only 100 days together, because Sehwag would have spent most of his time on the field. The media, especially the electronic media, covered the event rather over-enthusiastically. An employee asked his boss to grant him leave for two hours as he wanted to see the cricket highlights. The boss wanted to know which highlights was he talking about as the India-Pakistan series was already over. "The highlights of Sehwag’s marriage, sir," replied the employee. |
