IN dreams, one generally sees a burning lamp or a lamp being shut out. Thus, it either symbolises light or light being snuffed out. As per Indian thought, to see yourself holding a brightly lit lamp is very lucky for the dreamer. You shall succeed in whatever you undertake. People shall have great regard for you. On the other hand, should the lamp’s light be very dim, then beware. It foretells ill-health for you. And should the light of the lamp go out, it forewarns of a death in the family. You shall face failure and losses in the near future. To see yourself lighting a lamp indicates a change in affairs that shall bring profit to you. As per western thought, seeing lamps filled with oil denotes business activity that shall bring gains to you. Empty lamps represent depression and despondency. Seeing lamps burning with a clear flame indicates rise in fortune and domestic bliss. If they give out a dull, misty radiance, you shall face the jealousy and envy of others. You shall be full of suspicion. Should you accidentally drop the lamp, be prepared for your plans and hopes coming to naught. Should a burning lamp explode suddenly, be warned of enemies out to harm you. Broken lamps indicate bad tidings about people close to you. Carrying a lamp indicates an independent nature. To see your clothes catch fire from a lamp indicates humiliation. According to psychoanalysts, a burning lamp can represent life and even clarity of thought, in the sense of ‘suddenly seeing light’. It can also represent intellect and conceptual clarity. The gain of sudden wisdom or right guidance from someone is denoted when you see someone handing over a lighted lamp to you. It can also represent spiritual awakening. A woman of 29 would often see a shadowy figure with a lamp walking in front of her. She would be following the figure in a hypnotic trance. The figure would lead her to an unknown place and then hand over the lamp to her. She would take the lamp and walk away, suddenly finding herself in her home. But when she turned back to thank the figure, it wasn’t there. It probably meant that someone had done a good turn to the dreamer and she felt indebted to the person. She wanted to express gratitude but was unable to do so. |
