Doc joins Fortis

Fortis Heart Institute and Multi-Speciality Hospital today announced the appointment of Dr Sandeep Mehrishi as a consultant pulmonology and critical care. Earlier, Dr Mehrishi was the Assistant Professor of medicine and Director of inteventional bronchoscopy at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Tender Heart spikers clinch title

Chandigarh, April 21
Hosts Tender Heart School, Sector 33, in the boys section and Little Flower School, Sector 14, Panchkula, in the girl’s section emerged winners in the ICSE Inter-School Volleyball Tournament played here today at Sector 33.

Earlier, the tournament began with great fanfare and Schoolchildren cheered the participating team players.

In the girl’s final, Little Flower school outplayed Tender Heart School, Sector 33, by three matches to two. Earlier, LFS, Panchkula downed St Stephen’s-45 by 3-0 while Tender Heart got the better of St Kabir’s-26 by 3-1.

In the boys section, in the final, Tender Heart spikers overcame a stiff challenge from St Stephen’s before winning it ultimately. Earlier, in various matches, Tender Heart-33 beat St Xavier’s-44 by 3-0, St Stephen’s-45 defeated DAV, Dera Bassi, by 3-0, St Xavier’s-44 beat Carmel Convent (Nahan) by 3-0, Tender Heart defeated Little Flower 3-0 while St Stephen’s-45 beat St Kabir’s-45 by 3-1.

Tips on draughts

Mr Leo Aliar, a world class draughts trainer from Netherlands, today gave valuable tips to the learners on the sport here at the Lake View, Sector 6. According to Mr Raj Pal Singh, general secretary of the Draughts Federation of India, players from neighbouring states Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh took advantage of Aliar’s training.

Chandigarh area continues winning spree

Chandigarh, April 21
Chandigarh Area continued with their winning spree when they managed to outwit Adampur area 12-6 on the third day of the Western Air Command Inter-Area Handball Tournament being played here today at the 12 Wing Air Force Station. The half time score was 6-1 in favour of Chandigarh.

In the second tie, Ambala Area played a much better game to down Suratgarh area 10-2 with half time score of 3-1. In the third match of the day, Jammu Area and Bathinda area pitted in a close tie and after the scores levelled 3-3 till half time, finally Jammu Area were able to clinch the tie 10-9.

The fourth match was played between Hindon Area and Halwara area where former taking the early lead in the half time, with scores being 9-8. This was continued till full time but margins increased. Ultimately Hindon Area won 24-12.

In the last match of the day, Adampur Area proved too good for Jammu Area and won 14-7. Half time score was 6-6.
