GGNIMT wins inter-college festival trophy

Ludhiana, March 30
The team of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology, Civil Lines, here won the overall trophy at Anjuman, inter-college cultural festival, organised by Punjab Agricultural University, at Pal Auditorium recently.

The students of the institute won as many as 21 prizes in 26 events which included nine first prizes, nine second and four third prizes. The auditorium echoed with cheers and as the team won the overall trophy.

The first prizes were won by Manpreet in cartooning, Kuntal, Manish and Rattan in sell it, Rattan in collage making, Charanjit and Kuntal in strategy wars, Varinder and Varun in solo dance. Varun and Sarabjot in duet dance, and Gaurav Soin in hair styling.

Second prizes were won by Kuntal in Just a Minute, Manish in ‘Tol mol ke bol’, group dance, Charanjit, Kuntal and Tarun in quiz, Ankush and Nikhil in best friend, Varinder in one minute game and Gaurav Soin in rangoli. The team won second prize in fashion show as well. Ankush was declared the second well dressed boy while Pooja Jain was chosen as the second well dressed girl.

Third prizes were won by Kuntal for mock press conference, Pooja Jain in hair styling, Ramanjot in hand painting and Gaurav Soin in face painting. Rupinder Sumit Soin and Shweta Bhakoo supported the participating team. Mr Kuldip Singh, Director of the institute, and Mr Gunwant Singh Dua, coordinator, congratulated the students and staff the institute.

School opened

Ludhiana, March 30
Kangaroo Kids Education Limited opened its new branch of pre-school and primary school at Dugri here last evening.
Parents were also invited to the function. Children were taken around the campus which has a large playground, a life-size doll house, a playroom, a computer room, an outdoor gymnasium, music room, a library, sand and water play areas and marine water rooms.

Ms Jaya Bansal, franchise partner for Ludhiana, said the school aimed at bringing new concept of teaching which helped children learn through a wide variety of activities.

She said unique motor activities had been woven into a programme, which would help in reinforcing of skills such as balance, hand and eye coordination, rhythm and manual dexterity necessary to colour, draw and write.

2 KVM teachers retire

Ludhiana, March 30
The teachers of Kundan Vidya Mandir (KVM) bade adieu to two of their colleagues, Ms Tripta Sharda and Ms Usha Kalra, on their superannuation here today.
Both teachers were given a warm sendoff by members of the staff and the managing committee.

The Principal of the school, Ms Neena Khanna, appreciated the achievements of the teachers who retired after 33 years of service. Ms Kalra and Ms Sharda were presented a gold chain each by their colleagues.

Pak leader gives prizes for plays

Ludhiana, March 30
A three-day theatre festival held at Punjabi Bhawan, Ludhiana, was dedicated to Balwant Gargi, the founding father of modern Punjabi theatre. It was organized by the Rangmanch Sansthan, Ludhiana in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Centre and the Punjabi Sahitya Akademi.

The participating theatre groups included the Art Theatre, Ludhiana, National Theatre Arts Society, Patiala, Ludhiana Kala Manch, Sirjana Art Group, Raikot, Natakwala Patiala, and the Nishtha Sanskriti Manch, Gurgaon. Two plays each were staged on three days beginning March 27. Plays Mirch Masala, Kuknus Marda Nahin, ‘Dastan-e-Dil,’ Macbeth” and “Sayyan Bhayo Kotwal” were presented.

Rai Aziz Ullah Khan, member National Assembly Pakistan, was the chief guest on World Theatre Day. He appreciated “Kuknus” and “Dastan” and announced a prize of Rs 5,000 to each group.

As the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Tourism and Culture, he promised all help to performing groups in their creative and constructive efforts to promote Indo-Pak harmony and friendship.

Rai Aziz Ullah Khan was greeted among others by Mr H.S. Bhatia, general manager, Bank of India, Mr Suraj Dada of Dada Motors, H S mangat, Mr Nirmal Taura, Mr Manjit Singh Kehram, Mrs Amrita Sewak, president, Ludhiana Kala Manch, Mrs Kamlesh Sharma, North Zone Cultural Centre and Mr Gurbhajan Gill, senior vice-President Punjabi Sahitya Akademi. The festival was graced by an eminent theatre personality Sardarji Bawa. It concluded amid chanting of “Jai Rang” Manch (Long Live Theatre ).
