Farewell function at GGNK College

Ludhiana, March 29
The farewell function, “Adieu, Adieu,” of the Postgraduate Department of English of the local Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College was held today in Guru Nanak Hall. Dr T.S. Anand, Head of the Department, welcomed Principal Gurdip Singh and highlighted the achievements of the department.

Pooja was declared Miss Farewell while Tavinder Singh was declared Mr Farewell

The results of various competitions held on the occasion are as follows: Ms Beautiful Eyes — Manpreet; Ms Beautiful Hair — Niharika; Mr Personality — Yadwinder; Ms Personality — Sakshi; Mr Well Dressed — Shahed; Ms Best Smile — Vijayata; Ms Confident — Amandeep; Ms Confident — Aman; and Ms Fashionable — Sakshi.

Gender sensitisation: Mrs Jogginder Kaur, Lecturer in English, Ramgarhia Girls College, spoke on gender sensitisation at a workshop on the subject held today at the college. The NSS unit of the college, in collaboration with the Centre for Adult, Continuing extension and education, Punjab University, Chandigarh, had arranged this workshop. Quoting a few case studies, Mr Balkrishan Gupta, chief guest, said women today had become more goal-oriented than result-oriented. He made a comparative study between Americans and Indians saying that Indian women still provided child care despite being career-oriented.

Alpine school celebrates annual day

Ludhiana, March 29
Alpine International Senior Secondary School, Raja Gardens, here, celebrated its annual day function last evening. Mr A.K. Puri, Director General Police, Himachal Pradesh, was the chief guest Shikha Seth and Prabhdeep Matharoo presented classical music. Girls of the middle standard performed ‘Resham ka Rumal’ and ‘Dholi Taro’.

In between these dances, the talented students who brought laurels to the institution were awarded for winning national and state awards in various sports activities. The prizes for academics and various co-curricular activities were given by the chief guest.

Ms Rajeshwari Dhir, Principal of the school, honoured the chief guest with a memento.

School holds contests for parents

Ludhiana, March 29
Ryan International School here was abuzz with activities for parents as it organised various competitions for them recently.
There was a good turnout of parents, who had come to take part in the contests. Mothers participated in salad making, song competition and mimicry contests, while fathers could be seen participating in passing the parcel, song competition and on-the-spot advertisement making.

In salad making, Chandni Chawla stood first, while Sakshi clinched the top prize in mimicry competition. Preeti Goyal topped in the song competition. Among fathers, Mr Hardeep Singh, Mr Gurpreet Singh and Mr Neeraj Chawla stood first, second and third, respectively, in the singing competition. Among participants of advertisement contests, Mr Om Narang stood first, Mr Neeraj Chawla second and Mr Ajay Chawla got the third prize.

Ms Anupama Sapra, headmistress, gave away prizes to the winners. She stressed on the role of parents in the upbringing of their children.

SDP School staff suspend agitation

Ludhiana, March 29
On the intervention of the District Education Officer (DEO), the agitating staff members of SDP Senior Secondary School, Hazuri Road, suspended their stir on the 10th day of their protest dharna here today.

According to Mr Surinder Dutt Sharma, president of the school unit of the Punjab State Aided School Teachers and other Employees Union, the DEO, Mr Avinash Chander Sethi, along with Section Officer Pritam Singh visited the school to discuss the problems being faced by the staff members. After detailed discussions, in which the district president of the union, Mr Ranjit Singh, as well as Mr Joginder Singh and Mr Yash Pal took part, the DEO assured the staff members to grant justice to them and take up their demands with the management.

Workshop on environment education held

Ludhiana, March 29
The State Institute of Science Education SISE , in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forests, organised a two day workshop on environment education to develop co-curricular activities for promoting environment education in schools. The workshop organised at Government Inservice Training Centre (GITC ), here, concluded yesterday.
The training workshop was held for teachers from Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur.

Scientific paper writing on forensic medicine

Ludhiana, March 29
The two-day long workshop on, “Scientific paper writing and paper presentation”, organised by the Department of Forensic Medicine of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in collaboration with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), concluded here last evening.
Mr Dharam Veer Bector, vice-president, DMCH Managing Society was the chief guest. —OC
