Superb knock by Tanveer Ahmed

Chandigarh, March 29
Tanveer Ahmed, who scored 60 runs in 68 deliveries, helped Satluj Coaching Centre in defeating St John’s High School by seven wickets on the opening day of the II SN Vohra Memorial Cricket Tournament for under 13-played here today at St John’s School here today.

Batting first, St John’s Cricket Academy managed to score 149 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 40 overs. Kunal Mahajan scored 67 runs in just 60 deliveries including 10 hits to the fence for the St John’s School. Chasing the total, Satluj Coaching Centre achieved the target in 32.5 overs. Tanveer Ahmed at 60 runs was the top scorer while his team mate Shankar was unbeaten with 37 runs.

In another match of the day played at DAV Senior Secondary School grounds, Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, team trounced Chandigarh Cricket Association XI by eight wickets. In third match of the day, Gaziabad Mahanagar Cricket Association XI defeated MCA XI by six wickets.

In the last match of the day, MES, Patiala, beat Dronacharya Cricket Foundation, Delhi by 63 runs.

City shooters excel

Chandigarh rifle shooting team bagged two sliver medals and one bronze medal in the just concluded 47th National Shooting Championship in big-bore events held at Reoti ranges, BSF,Indore.

Results: 300 metres rifle 3 position- ISSF Men (team): Rajesh Kumar, Kuldeep and Gurdev) total 2215/3600- silver medal; 300 metres rifle prone-ISSF men: Rajesh Kumar, Kuldeep Singh and Joginder Singh)1289/1800- silver medal; and 300 metres std.rifle 3 position-ISSF men:Rajesh Kumar, Gurdev and Karambir Singh) 1026/1800 bronze medal.

Three local cricketers — Rajesh Sehgal, Anurag Chopra and Akshay Kumar, today left for Bangkok to play matches. They have gone under the aegis of Malviya Sports, Delhi. Players from other countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia will take part in the tournament.

Earlier, boys had the distinction of representing Chandigarh in the National CK Nayadu Schools Cricket Tournament.

13 barred from driving vehicles

Chandigarh, March 29
The Licencing Authority the Chandigarh has declared 13 city residents as 'habitual traffic offenders and they have been barred from driving vehicles.
Mr Feroz Khan (Sector 32-C), Mr Goverdan Lal (Sector 44), Mr Amit Eakshi (Sector 9), Mr Satbarg Singh (Sector 23), Arvind Kumar (Sector 45) and Mr Bhupinder Singh (Sector 21) have been disqualified for driving for two months. Mr Varinder Bali (Sector 21), Mr Nitin Sharma (Sector 44) and Mr Ashish Kumar (Sector 18) have been barred for driving for three months.

Mr Krishan Kumar (Sector 18), Mr Arvind Kumar (Burail) and Mr Chunmun Parsad (Darwa village) have been disqualified for four months, while Mr Sunil Kumar (Sector 29) has been disqualified for six months. OC
