Did you know
J and U are latecomers

The English alphabet originally had only 24 letters. J and U found their way into the alphabet later.

The combination "ough" can be pronounced in nine different ways. The following sentence contains these ways: "A rough-coated, dough-faced, thoughtful plough man strode through the streets of Scarborough; after falling into a slough, he coughed and hiccoughed."

Punctuation was not invented until the 1500s.

The ZIP in zip code stands for "Zone Improvement Plan."

The longest word used by Shakespeare in any of his works is "honorificabilitudinitatibus," in Love's Labors Lost. Unfortunately no one knows what it means.
