A boat is a means of both transport and recreation. An interpretation of a dream of boats would depend on the size of the boat or the ship as also on the purpose for which it is being used.

According to Indian thought, dreaming of rowing a boat with paddles is a good omen. It means that you shall be successful in your business, profession and personal life. If you see yourself travelling on a ship on a day when the waters are calm and the journey pleasant then again it spells success. For the married such a dream spells a joyful marital life. But if the water is dirty and turbulent then it is considered to be a bad omen. It means that you shall have to face several dangers in life. If you are the captain of the ship, then it means that you shall get an opportunity to go overseas and even settle there, if you so wish. Should your boat capsize then it is considered unlucky as it means that you shall be surrounded by troubles and problems.

As per western thought, boats symbolise bright prospects if the waters are clear and calm. But if they are troubled and turbulent then you are warned to be prepared for an unfortunate turn of events in your life. If you complete the journey with no accidents or mishaps and with a pleasant crew then it means that fate shall favour you. But should you fall overboard or should your boat capsize and drown then it is an unlucky omen.

Psychoanalytically speaking, dreaming of rowing a boat is symbolic of your capacity to navigate through life. It is also an indication of your desire to control your life. If you are alone in a boat then it denotes your desire to be alone. To miss your boat indicates the fear of missing out on a chance. It could also mean that you have accepted the fact that you have missed a golden opportunity.

A 41-year-old man would often dream of rowing a boat with his wife. His parents and children would be waving at them from the shore. Suddenly he would find himself in the middle of the sea with no land in sight. Not knowing which way to go he would stand up in the boat to try and see land. At that moment the oars would fall in the water and they would both be stranded alone in the vast sea. But they would not feel any fear. They would simply lie down and enjoy the peace and quiet. An analysis of the dream indicated that the man probably lacks privacy with his wife. He seems to find the privacy he wants in the middle of the sea and is, thus, neither afraid nor in a hurry to return.
