2.06 lakh children expected to be administered pulse polio drops

Sonepat, February 20
At least 2.06 lakh children below five years are expected to be administered pulse polio drops in Sonepat district during the countrywide immunisation campaign on the National Polio Day on February 22.

Dr O P Baxi, Information Officer of the Health Department told mediapersons here today that the department had made elaborate arrangements for making the campaign a success.

As many as 666 polio centres would be set up, including 490 in the rural areas of the district. He also disclosed that as many as 2,664 employees, to be supervised by 101 observers, would be employed during the campaign. Several mobile teams would also visit places like the railway stations and bus stands for this purpose.

Special booths would be set up at various places for administering the drops to the children of travellers passing through the district.

Moreover, mobile teams would also be pressed into service to cover the children living in the slums, brick-kilns and the labour colonies.

Malhotra opens Archery Centre at KVS

New Delhi, February 20
President of the Archery Association of India (AAI) Vijay Kumar Malhotra, who is also the president of the All-India Council of Sports (AICS), inaugurated the first Archery Training Centre at the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) at Tagore Garden.

Mr Malhotra said there were 58 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the Delhi region alone and the KVS has embarked on a grand scheme of creating sports infrastructure and providing training facilities to its students. He said almost all the KVS have excellent facilities for other sports disciplines, and it is for the first time that top class facilities have been created for archery training. The Sangathan will soon embark on creating archery training facilities in other schools as well.

Assistant commissioner of KVS Sudhir Mudawal said there were 900 Kendriya Vidyalayas with excellent sports infrastructure and the KVS would embark on introducing archery in most of the regions. Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi was also present.

Meanwhile, Mr Malhotra will hold a reception to the Indian archery team at his residence on Saturday. The Indian team, who won a gold (Tarundeep Rai) and two bronze medals in the tem events by the men and women, will return home on Saturday morning after participating in the Asian Grand Prix Championship at Bangkok (Thailand).

IMA, Lancers to clash in RVS Cup final

New Delhi, February 20
IMA will take on Lancers in the final of the Addl DG RVS Cup (two-goal) Polo Tournament at the Army Equestrian Centre Polo ground on Friday.

In the semi-finals on Friday, IMA defeated NDA by four goals to three and a half while Lancers defeated RVC by five goals to two and a half.

IMA beat APRC by six goals to four and Sahgal Stud/Nike beat NDA by five goals to two and a half in the semi-finals of the Junior IPA Championship at the Army Equestrian Centre polo ground.

GC Vishal Chauhan (4) and G C Kunal Lonari (2) scored the goals for IMA while Dhanajaya Singh (2) was the lone scorer for APRC, who started with a two-goal handicap.

Simran Shergill (3), Hamza Ali and Gaurav Sahgal scored for Sehgal Stud/Nike.

Food Corporation of India (FCI) trounced Golden Hawks by 51 runs in an ‘A’ Division match of the DDCA League at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground.

Scores: FCI: 273 for 5 in 40 overs (Akash Malhotra 113, Sanjeev Kohli 100 n o, Atish Kumar 4 for 40).

Golden Hawks: 222 for 8 in 40 overs (Gaurav Sharma 81, Kuldeep Rawat 35, Amit Singh 3 for 33).

Gush Cricket Club defeated Delhi Colts by seven wickets in an A-I Division match.

Scores: Delhi Colts: 187 for 9 in 40 overs (Raj Kumar 37, Ajay Chauhan 4 for 33, Mukesh Kumar 2 for 13). Gush Club: 188 for 3 in 34.4 overs (Aprajit Singh 73 n o, Sebi Kukreja 46).

Chandni Chowk Gymkhana defeated Shahdara Club by one wicket in an A-II Division match at the University ground.
