Islamabad, February 16
India and Pakistan exchanged “some proposals” on the first day of their official-level talks here today to discuss modalities and time frame for the resumption of a bilateral composite dialogue to settle outstanding issues, including Jammu and Kashmir.

SC asks for IIM revenue details
Says institutes not for elite alone
New Delhi, February 16
The Supreme Court today directed three petitioners in the IIM fee controversy to place before it complete data about the revenue generated by the six business schools annually and the balance sheets for the past 10 years to make a case for issuing notice to the government on its decision to slash the fee from Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 30,000.

SC stays order on judge in Burail case
New Delhi, February 16
The Supreme Court today stayed an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court impleading Chandigarh District and Sessions Judge (DSJ) H.S. Bhalla as party in a petition seeking CBI probe into the Burail Jail case in which four prisoners, including three accused in the Beant Singh assassination, had fled through a tunnel dug by them.

Professional tax in Haryana goes

The Haryana Government today abolished professional tax. This was announced by Finance Minister Sampat Singh during his two-hour reply to the debate on the Budget estimates in the Vidhan Sabha, which was marked by a walkout by the Congress MLAs.
