Karunakaran to form Indira Congress

The Congress in Kerala today split with senior leader K. Karunakaran announcing his decision to float a new party — “Indira National Congress” — next month. The octogenarian leader is breaking away from the Congress for the first time in his long association with the party, which he joined as a freedom fighter.

Venkaiah re-elected BJP President
New Delhi, January 28
Mr Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu was today unanimously re-elected President of the BJP for another term for three years. Announcing this at a press conference here, the BJP’s election officer O.P. Kohli said a formal announcement would be made at the national executive meeting of the party on February 6 here.

The Punjab council of ministers today lifted the ban on new recruitments and abolished the post of Pro Vice-Chancellor in all universities. The decision will affect Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences, Faridkot; Punjabi University, Patiala; and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
