Suri, Pathak head panels

Chandigarh, January 28
The PGI Dean and Head of Radiodiagnosis Department, Prof Sudha Suri, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Standing Academic Committee.

The Union Health and Welfare Ministry constituted the governing body and other important committees of the PGI after their term expired on December 3 last. The institute body, at its last meeting, had left it to the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ms Sushma Swaraj, to constitute these committees.

The Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof K.N. Pathak, has been made the Chairperson of the Standing Purchase Committee. The Director-General, Health Services, Dr S.P. Aggrawal, will head the Standing Selection Committee while the Health Secretary, Mr J.V. Prasada Rao, will be the Chairman of the Standing Finance Committee. The Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Health Ministry, Mr Anurag Goel, will head the Standing Estate Committee.

Increase in PGI budget to help complete projects

Chandigarh, January 28
An enhancement of Rs 9.50 crore in the non-plan budget will enable the PGI to not just complete some of the ongoing projects but will also help the institute to undertake new projects.

Speaking at the Republic Day function, the PGI Director, Prof S.K. Sharma, said the enhancement would help in completing the projects at the earliest. “The PGI will shortly start a postgraduation course in hospital administration as the creation of a separate department has already been notified by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry,” he disclosed.

He informed that a lot of work had been undertaken for the welfare of the doctors, employees and other staff members. He said the doctors mess and the new blocks of the doctors hostel were almost ready and the water supply to the PGI was being augmented.

In his address, Prof Sharma appreciated the doctors and PGI staff for rendering selfless services to the patients from the entire region. He said PGI doctors had made a mark by winning international and national awards for the research work undertaken by them.

Chetanpreet, Minerva are best shooters

Chetanpreet Kaur of Panjab University campus and Sabeeha Dhillon of MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, were adjudged individual all-round first and second, respectively, in the air rifle event in the Panjab University Inter-College Shooting (women) Championship at Sector 25 Patiali ki Rao shooting ranges here today.

Chetanpreet shot 394/400 while Sabeeha closely followed with 391/400. Prabhleen Chauhan of GGS College for Women, Sector 26, was placed third. She shot 388/400.

In the air pistol event, Minerva Singh of PU campus with 369/400 secured first place while Kirandeep Kaur of Dashmesh Girls College, Badal, shot 354/400 to be placed second. Rajvinder Kaur of Dashmesh Girls College, Badal, with 348/400 points secured third place.

In the team championship, Dashmesh Girls College, Badal, and PU Regional Centre, Muktsar, were jointly declared first. MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, secured bronze medal.
