January 26 is a red-letter day in the Indian history as it was on this day in 1950 that India became a complete sovereign nation. This year we will celebrate the 55th Republic Day. The Indian Republic Day is famous worldwide for its spectacular celebrations. The President of India at New Delhi unfurls the Tricolour and is saluted by the Armed Forces on this most colourful day. Republic Day celebration is a treat for eyes to watch as it includes march past of the armed forces, massive parades, brightly illuminated drawn wagons and folk dances from the different states showing the cultural unity of India.
