Workshop on good health on tomorrow

Ludhiana, January 2
Swami Anand Vairagayji will conduct a workshop on managing self for good health and work efficiently at the Vardhaman Training and Development Centre here on Sunday. This was stated in a press note issued today by Dr D.K. Sindwani, Chief Executive, Vardhman Special Steels, Ludhiana, who is coordinating the workshop.

He further said the workshop timings at the Vardhman Training Centre would be from 10.45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Senior managers and executives of the Vardhman group would attend it.

He added that another workshop on these lines would be organised at Firdaus, Hotel Majestic Park Plaza, Ferozepore Road, Ludhiana, on the same day for entrepreneurs and management professionals. Its timings would be from 3 p.m. to 5.15 p.m.

Eye camp organised

An eye donation camp was organised by HDHI Employees Welfare Association on December 30, 2003, at Dumra Auditorium Hall.

The function was inaugurated by the chief guest, Mr Dharamvir Bector, in charge managing committee HDHI. Dr Daljit Singh (Principal of DMCH), Dr Sandeep Puri, Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Col. T.S. Kanwar, Dr G.S. Wander (Prof. and chief cardiologist HDHI) and other cardiologist and surgeons of Hero DMC Heart Institute were present.

International kabaddi cup begins today

Ludhiana, January 2
The stage is set for the two-day International Canada Kabaddi Cup Tournament slated to be held here at the Guru Nanak Stadium on January 3 and 4.

According to Mr Rajinder Singh Hissowal, president, Malwa Sports Association of Canada, eight top teams with some Indians settled abroad in their ranks would be seen in action during this two-day kabaddi extravaganza. A meeting of the association was held here today to assess the preparations being made to conduct this tournament successfully. Mr Kartar Singh, Director Sports, Punjab, who is also the chief patron of the association chaired the meeting.

After the meeting, Mr Kartar Singh, while addressing the media said that during this tournament, total ten matches would be played including one match each between the Rest of Punjab and Haryana XI and eves match besides an exhibition match between veterans' teams.

The winners will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 and a gold trophy. A number of prominent wrestlers have also been invited exhibit their skills during this two-day meet, Mr Singh informed.

A wrestling match between Gursharan Kaur and Sonika Kaliraman, daughter of former international wrestler, Chandgi Ram in the women's section and between Babbu Alamgir and Amandeep Sodhi from Phagwara in the men's section would be the main attraction of this festival, the director said.

Mr Surjan Singh Chatha, President of the newly formed Circle Kabaddi Federation of India who was also present on this occasion said that as many as fourteen kabaddi academies have affiliated with federation, the main objective of which is to promote the game of kabaddi in this region of the country. "In future, no team with name such as Canada XI, USA XI and UK XI would be allowed to field the teams since these teams are comprising of Indian players only," Mr Chatha clarified.

Giving details of the tournament, Mr Chatha said that on the opening day, besides, eves' match and veteran's exhibition match, two matches are slated to be held. The inaugural match will be played between Harjit Talwara and Doaba Club of Moga and in the second match, Harjit Bajakhana Club will take on Dashmesh Club of Nakodar. The matches would be conducted according the international rules and any participant, found guilty of disobeying the rules would be debarred, Mr Chatha said.

Mr Rajinder Singh Hissowal, President of the organising association said that the association would honour commentators Makhan Singh Hakimpur and Darshan Singh Baddi with scooters during the closing ceremony of this tournament on January 4.

Mr D R Bhatti, Additional Director General of Police, PAP, Jalandhar will be the chief guest on the opening ceremony on January 3 while Mr A A Siddiqui, Director General of Police, Punjab will preside over the concluding function on January 4.

Amanjot Kaur is best sportsperson

The annual athletics meet of Anand Isher Public Senior Secondary School concluded here recently. Lt Col Vinay Mullick, commandant, 19 Punjab Battalion, NCC, presided over the closing ceremony and Mr Anil Kumar Aggarwal Executive Director SIL, was the chief guest.

Ms Amanjot Kaur, a students of plus, was declared best sportsperson of the school. Gurjot Kaur and Sukhraj Singh were declared best youngest runners. Kiran Preet Singh, Jagroop Singh, Harjot Singh, Manpinder, Sukhjit Singh, Abhikaran Singh, Barinder Harmandeep Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, AtinderPaul Singh, Gurbir Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Gurudytya, Priya Mohindra, Jaspreet Kaur, Ravneet Kaur, Husanpreet Kaur, Harman Preet Kaur, Navneet Kaur, Bhavanjot Kaur, Prabhjot, Ravneet Kaur, Jaswine Kaur, Harman Preet Kaur, Navneet Kaur, Manjot Kaur, Sandeep Kaur, Prabhjot Kaur, Simranjeet Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur and Navneet Kaur, won first prizes in various events, including 100m, 200m, 50m, 80m hurdles and 100m hurdles races in the respective age groups. Tug of war was won by 10+2 commerce students. Bhangra, giddha and band performers were also honoured on the occasion. Mr Kartar Singh, Principal, passed a vote of thanks at closing ceremony.

Khanna police told to book 3 directors of firm

Mr Anurag Verma, Deputy Commissioner, here has directed the Khanna police to book three directors of a Doraha-based factory on charges of dismantling and removing machinery detained by the Central Excise Department. Interestingly, the Khanna police did not take any action on a similar recommendation made by the Central Excise Department seven months ago.

The department had sought the directions of the Deputy Commissioner in the case due to inaction of the Khanna police.

A press note issued here today by the Deputy Commissioner said he had written to the SSP, Khanna, for the registration of a case against the three directors, Trilochan Singh, Amarjit Singh Bhatti and Sarabjit Singh. Jit Singh, security supervisor of M/s Kirpal Singh Alloys Ltd., Kaddon Road, Doraha, was also one of the suspects in the dismantling/removing of the detained machinery of the plant valued at Rs 1.7 crore.

The machinery had been detained by the Central Excise Department as the party owed it Rs 81.32 lakh as arrears.

The Deputy Commissioner, Central Excise, Mr R.N. Dhir, said the detained plant machinery was handed over to Jit Singh under the Central excise laws. and he had to keep it in safe custody.

The Deputy Commissioner, Central Excise, had earlier written to the DSP and SHO, Payal, on May 5, 2003, to register a case in this regard. According to him despite an inquiry conducted by the SP (D), Khanna , the FIR was not registered.
