Admn clarifies on taxation regime on medicines
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, January 2
The Excise and Taxation wing of the Chandigarh Administration today clarified about the taxation regime on the sale of medicines in the city.

In case of medicines with labels indicating MRP inclusive of local taxes, no sales tax is payable.

In this case, the MRP is fixed by taking into account the local taxes levied by the state, under the Drug (Price Control) Order 1995.

As there is no other local tax payable at the moment except sales tax in Chandigarh, anybody charging over and above the MRP in such cases would be liable for action under relevant law.
