Sarth Kamal, Mouma bag TT titles

New Delhi, December 11
A Sarth Kamal and Mouma Das of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board annexed the men’s singles and women’s singles titles respectively in the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship (North Zone) at the Talkatora indoor stadium on Thursday.

Sarth Kamal defeated Soumya Deep Roy 6-11, 11-7. 11-9. 1-11, 1-11 and 11-3 while Mouma Das got the better of Anindita Chakraborty of Railway Sports Promotion Board at 11-8, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9.

Sayantika Kundu of Bengal won the girls singles title, defeating K Shamini of Indian Bank 11-9, 11-5, 11-7, 10-12, 16-14. Soumyajit Sarkar of Centre of Excellence defeated team-mate Amar Nath Das 11-4, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 to annex the boys’ singles title.

The prizes were distributed by Table Tennis Federation of India president Ajay Singh Chautala.

Following are the semi-final results: Girls singles: Sayantika Kundu beat S Sangeetha 8-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5, 12-10; K Shamini b Runa Roy 11-2, 6-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-8, 13-11.

Boys singles: Amar Nath Das b Niloy Basak 11-6, 11-9, 4-11, 11-9, 12-10; Soumajit Sarkar b R Abhishek 11-6, 11-2, 11-4, 11-7.

Women’s singles: Anindita Chakraborty b Vishakha Vijay 11-7, 11-3, 12-10, 15-13; Mouma Das b Nandita Saha 11-8, 11-6, 11-7, 5-11, 11-5.

National Stadium Coaching Centre lift title

New Delhi, December 11
National Stadium Coaching Centre defeated Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan by 52 runs to annex the title of the Bhavan Under-12 Cricket Tournament at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan ground.

Shobhit Verma, who scored a strokeful 67, studded with seven boundaries in the final, was adjudged the man of the match while Nial Dobral, who claimed three wickets for six runs for National Stadium in the final, got the best bowler award. Sourav Bisht of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was declared the best batsman.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan principal G S Negi gave away the prizes. Sports department head Miss Suman Kapoor and former international umpire S. K. Bansal were also present.

Scores: National Stadium: 196 for 9 in 30 overs (Sobhit Verma 67, Unmukt Chand 57, Lalit 31 n o, Utshav Choudhary 4 for 33, Nikunj Sharma 3 for 25).

Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan: 144 all out in 28.4 overs (Gourav Bisht 82, Utshav Choudhary 40 n o, Nial Dobral 3 for 6, Sajal Mohan 4 for 24).

Parshant shines

An all-round display by Parshant (42 and 3 for 6) and a dashing knock of 77 with 12 fours by Harminder helped Sikka Team beat Sunrise by 100 runs in the ACCD Cricket Tournament at the Venkateshwara College ground.

Scores: Sikka: 198 for 8 in 25 overs (Harinder 77, Prashant 42, Yuspat 3 for 31).

Sunrise: 98 all out in 22 overs (Ashise 35, Parshant 3 for 6, Lalit 2 for 26).

Pahari Dhiraj win

Pahari Dhiraj beat Delhi Transport Corporation by seven wickets in a DDCA A-I Division match at the RSC ground.

Scores: DTC: 181 (Mahesh Sharma 35, Dalip Kumar 22, Sandeep Kumar 21). Pahari Dhiraj: 182 for 3 (Bhupinder Lingwal 64, Virat Kohli 64 n o, Ankush Kumar 28 n o).

Regional sports complex to come up at
Sonepat village

Sonepat, December 11
The Haryana Government has decided to establish a northern regional sports complex at Joshi Chauhan village in Sonepat district to boost sports activities in the state. This was stated by Chief Minister Om Prakash

Chautala while he was speaking at the 29th annual day function of the Motilal Nehru School of Sports at Rai, about 13 km from here, on Wednesday evening.

He also disclosed that this complex, named after Devi Lal, would cost Rs 100 crore and its construction was going on at a fast pace. It would soon be completed. All modern sports facilities, he said, would be made available to sportspersons in this complex by the state government. He said national and international training camps would also be held in this complex for the benefit of the sportspersons.

The Chief Minister highlighted other schemes of his government for giving a fillip to sports in the state.

He disclosed it had introduced a new scheme named “Catch them Young’ for providing training to sportspersons. The government, he said, had also set up many sports nurseries in different parts of the state for children aged between 10 and 14 years.

Similarly, the state government had established two modern sports stadiums at Gurgaon and Panchkula at a cost of Rs 11 crore each whereas another big sports stadium was being established on 217.5 acres of land at a cost of Rs 12 crore at Sirsa. A sports training centre was also being established at Hisar for children above 17 years of age.

Mr Chautala also listed the sportspersons who had been given cash prizes during his tenure as Chief Minister for their good performance in national and international sports meets. He promised that more incentives would be given to sportspersons bringing laurels for the state in the ensuing national and international events.

An unbeaten century by 11-year-old Manan Sharma (110, 18x4, 92b) helped United Delhi Cricket Academy defeat Salwan Public by 23 runs in a league match of the seventh Little Master Under-12 Cricket Tournament at the Ashok Vihar Sports Complex ground.

Scores: United Academy: 156 for 5 in 25 overs (Manan Sharma 110 n o, Shivam Kapoor 3 for 38).

Salwan Public School: 123 all out in 24 overs (Shivam Kapoor 25, Siddarth Bhandari 3 for 20).

I.G. Stadium in final

Indira Gandhi Stadium coaching centre defeated Dena Bank by 21 runs in the C L Gupta Memorial Cricket Tournament for the Prem Lata Trophy at the Mohan Meakin ground.

Salwan, DAV to clash in World Cup final

Salwan Boys School defeated Parzowar Kalindi School, Bangladesh by four wickets in the first semi-final of the DPS World Cup Invitational Cricket for Schools at the SGTB Khalsa College ground.

In the second semi-final, DAV School, Chandigarh defeated Razzak High School, Bangladesh by eight wickets.

Scores: Parzowar School: 147 (Mehmud Rahman 29 n o, Alamgir Hossain Rana 34, Imran Hossain 22, Ashutosh Sharma 4 for 28, Rohit Saini 2 for 23, Narender Singh 2 for 28).

Laxman Cricket tourney

The first Silver Jubilee Laxman Memorial International Under-19 Cricket Tournament will be held at the Laxman Public School from December 12 to 19.

The tournament will be played on a leagu-cum-knock out basis.

Teams like Don Bosco, DPS (Mathura Road), Laxman Public, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Springdales, CSA Bangladesh, CAK Nepal and RHS Bangladesh will take part in the tournament.

Ashiq Beevi, Manjit annex gold medals

New Delhi, December 11
Ashiq Beevi of CRPF and Manjit Kaur of Punjab Police struck gold medals in the 100m hurdles final and 200m final for women respectively in the 52nd All-India Police Athletic Championship at the Dronacharya Stadium at Chhawla on Thursday.

In the 800m final, Deepika Biswas of CRPF bagged the title with M C Sarma of CRPF and Ramla Devi of Punjab collecting the silver and bronze in that order.

In the men’s 200m final, Jorawar Singh emerged the winner followed by Jata Shankar and Manjinder Singh. In the 800m men’s final, Nishan Singh won the gold. He was followed by Kashmir Singh and Robin P J.

Bahadur Singh and Amarjeet Singh, both of Punjab Police, claimed the shot put and triple jump gold medals, respectively.
