Jindal Steel power to Hari Singh Polo Cup New Delhi, November 30 Jindal got off the mark in style when Samir Suhag shot in two 60-yard penalties to put them ahead by 2-0 in the first chukker. Suhag then completed his hattrick in the second chukker to widen Jindal’s lead. Jindal then found to their mortification that they were under pressure too as 23-year-old Juan Ambroggio slotted in two quick goals to narrow the lead to 2-3 at the end of the second chukker. The tide once again swung in favour of Jindal in the third chukker as Simran Shergill and Vishal Singh undid Juan’s good work by scoring two and three goals respectively, widening the gap to 8-2. The fourth chukker witnessed Royal Kashmir straining hard to catchup with Jindal, but without much success, as they could fire home just one goal through Oliver Taylor. Jindal then further consolidated their position as Capt. Pandher fired in two consecutive goals to take push the lead to 10-3. Royal Kashmir had something to cheer about in the fifth chukker as Ambroggio, Taylor and Capt Sandhu scored a goal each while Jindal drew a blank in this session. But Jindal revved up once again in the final chukker with Vishal Singh scoring two goals and Samir Suhag blasting home the 13th goal, which proved really unlucky for Royal Kashmir as they had to surrer their crown rather tamely. Jindal Steel’s Samir Suhag won the most valuable player award for his consistent display in the tournament. The best polo pony award was bestowed on Chanchal, owned by Simran Shergill. Rana Kapoor of Rabo India gave away the prizes. |
Low-scoring matches in Subroto Cup New Delhi, November 30 Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa Higher Secondary School, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) registered their first win in two matches when they scored a narrow 1-0 victory against American College Higher Secondary School, Madurai (Tamilnadu) 1-0 in a listless contest. Manish Raja slotted in the match-winner in the 46th minute. Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School, Shillong (Meghalaya) too scored a narrow victory when they defeated Air Force School, Subroto Park (New Delhi) by a lone goal. The Delhi boys should be given due credit for keeping the superior-skilled Good Shepherd boys at bay till the 58th minute when their talented striker Hopingstone Suting dribbled past two defenders to put the ball in, with a deft left-footer. In the third match, Bangladesh Krira Shikha Sansthan, Dhaka were held to a 1-1 by Kabiraj Tilla High School, Badharghat (Tripura). The Dhaka team took the lead when Herok scored a brilliant goal. But they nullified this advantage when their defence was caught napping and the goal-keeper showed slippery fingers when Tripura school captain Bino Kishore Jamatia latched onto a free ball, then moved ahead to blast it in and level the score. Monday’s fixtures: American College vs MM Rabbani School (9 am); Air Force School vs Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa School (10.30 am); Mamta Modern School vs Kabiraj Tilla School (2 pm); Bangladesh Krira Shikha vs G V Raja Sports School, Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala (3.30 pm)—Ambedkar Stadium. |
