Check sale of spurious drugs, says union

Ludhiana, November 10
The General body meeting of the Punjab and Chandigarh Medical and Sales Representatives Union was held at Harnam Nagar today under the guidance of Mr D.P. Dubey, general secretary of the Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives of India.

He expressed concern over black-marketing of medicines and sale of spurious drugs. He said the World Health Organisation had expressed concern over the sale of spurious medicines.

He said the country had a pharmaceutical market worth Rs 20,000 crore out of which spurious drugs amounted to Rs 8,000 crore.

The members pointed out that the government should appoint more Drug Inspectors and more testing laboratories should be there to check drugs. The meeting was attended by more than 70 members of the union.

Punjab basketball teams announced

Ludhiana, November 10
Teams for the All-India Nachchttar Singh F. Gill Memorial Basketball Tournament to be held from November 11 to November 15 have been announced .
Snehpal Singh of PAP, Jalandhar, and Paramjit Kaur of Faridkot will lead the Punjab teams in the men and women section, respectively.

The Punjab teams will be represented by the following players and officials:

Men’s section: Snehpal Singh (C) — PAP, Amit Prashar — PAP, Pawan Kumar — PAP, Gurpal Singh — PAP, Jagdeep Singh — Punjab Basketball Academy, Yadwinder Singh — Punjab Basketball Academy, Amritpal SIngh — Punjab Basketball Academy, Akash — Punjab Basketball Academy, Fatehjit Singh of Ludhiana, Talwinder Singh of Ludhiana, Lakhwinder Singh of Bathinda, and Mandeep Singh of Gurdaspur. Coach: Dr S. Subramanian and Mr Ramesh Kalley and manager, Mr B.S. Brar.
