As many as 2,123 cases of fever, including 62 cases of malaria have been detected in different villages and towns of Gannaur sub division during the weeklong survey by the different teams of the Health Department. This was stated by the Senior Medical Officer of the Gannaur Community Health Centre, Dr S N Sardana, while presiding over a meeting of the doctors of the area.

Following the detection of cases of fever, he said the health authorities had finalised a plan to effectively control any further increase in cases of fever. According to the plan, one health employee has been put on duty in every village, besides setting up one to six medicine distribution points as per the population of the area.

Each doctor has been allotted different villages to supervise the implementation of the plan. Dr Sardana stated that as per the programme in the first phase, the health employee will administer chloroquin tablets as preliminary treatment to the effected patient. The patients blood samples will be sent for diagnosis to the lab. In case it is found positive for malaria, a regular treatment, which will be free, will be administered to the patient, he added. Admitting that most of the patients were suffering from seasonal fever, Dr Sardana denied any detection of dengue cases so far.

However, the people are being guided and informed about the precautionary measures to be taken against dengue and other fevers, he added. He also disclosed that during the last one week, the health teams had visited 37,260 houses, collected 1,179 blood slides and treated 2,123 patients by distributing more than 9,200 chloroquin tablets. It is pointed out that the plan was worked out following report of the deaths of more than half a dozen children due to a mysterious fever in Kheri Gujjar village and increase in number of patients with fever in different villages and Gannaur town.
