Dream Theme

Dreaming of balloons
Vinaya K. Manhas

CHILDREN play with balloons and hence it is symbolic of ones childhood. But at the same time it also symbol of emptiness. If a person dreams of colourful balloons, it denotes joy.

As per Indian thought, to see balloons in the sky is a good omen as it predicts happiness in life. Should you see yourself travelling in a balloon then it is not a good symbol. It means that you shall take certain steps which shall not be favourable from your professional point of view. You shall not be successful.

As per western thought, dreaming of balloons foretells adverse situations and disillusionment. It might also mean that your business shall suffer. Should you see yourself flying in a balloon then it foretells that you shall undertake a difficult journey which shall bring misfortune to you.

From the psychological point of view, balloons tend to imply fun and frolic amid seriousness. These can also denote a sexual desire. The colour of the balloon is very important while analysing its significance. Whereas a blue balloon denotes the need for relaxation, red stands for vigour, strength and sexuality. Green is the colour of balance and harmony whereas brown stands for earth, death and commitment. A bunch of colourful balloons signifies the need for fun, frolic and partying. Dreaming of yourself flying in a balloon and feeling weightless as you ascend in the sky denotes the desire to run away from responsibilities and ties and be carefree.

A 34-year-old man often dreamt of a bunch of balloons in the sky. As he turned he would suddenly realise that he was flying as well. Then he would see that he was tied to those balloons and was flying with them. At first he would feel scared when he saw the ground disappear, but then slowly joy would take over and he would feel relaxed. The man, in all probability, is weighed down with responsibilities and hence feels depressed. He desires to escape all the pressures but he knows he cannot and feels guilty for harbouring such thoughts. This accounts for the sense of fear that he initially feels. But soon the desire to escape takes over and he lets himself fly with the wind, enjoying the feeling of carefree freedom.
