Dream Theme

Dreaming of caves
Vinaya K. Manhas

CAVES are dark and deep and thus evoke feelings of fear and dread when seen in dreams. Of course, one may see a well-lit cave, but the initial impression of it being something dreadful, nevertheless, remains. A person could see himself trapped in a cave, entering a cave coming out of a cave or he might hear some sounds from a cave, or he might simply see himself standing at the mouth of a cave.

As per Indian thought, to dream of entering a cave is a warning to be cautious in the near future. You might get some news that could bring shame to you. You might be at the receiving end of insults. Should you manage to get out of the cave then you may be sure of getting your reputation cleared and retaining your good name. Should you in turn get lost then beware your downfall in your social circle is certain. You have trusted the wrong type of people who are misguiding you.

As per the westerners, should you see the mouth of a cave opening in front of you and it is night-time, then beware of situations of conflicting natures and adverse situations. Your job front seems to be insecure and your health not in a very good shape. Should you see yourself as inside a cave then you shall soon be separated from your near and dear ones. Should you be entering a cave with someone, then beware of the ill thoughts of that person. He/she is not your well wisher. Because of that person you could even loose valued friends.

Caves being dark and unknown psychoanalytically are a portrayal of our unconscious self, which is unknown to our conscious being. Although initially the dream symbol of a cave generally evokes feelings of dread within us, but should we let our dreams run further we shall find that we come across a lot of facts regarding ourselves. Things that we see in a cave are the darker, hidden sides of us that we have as yet not been prepared to accept. To pass through it and come out is to be more aware of our inner states and being able to accept and understand our negative thoughts and impulses.

A woman of 24 would often see herself as being trapped in a cave she would run here and there to find a way out but would keep getting lost in the several tunnels inside it. She would wake up pretty scared after such a dream. The dream is more of a portrayal of her own conflicting mind. She seems to be trapped in a particular situation of which she is unable to eradicate herself. Thus she is unable to find the path out in her dreams. 24 is not a very big age to declare total independence. The lady ought to go for some advice from an elderly person on whom she can rely.
