City doc invited for national conference

Ludhiana, September 24
Dr R.S.Bhatia, a medical consultant specialising in lung disorders has been invited to participate in the National Conference of Pulmonary Diseases NAPCON, 2003 as Chairman of the academic session at Coimbatore, along with Dr John Gibson from UK.

This is the fifth joint conference of the Indian Chest Society and the National College of Chest Physicians. Dr Bhatia will chair a session on rehabilitation of patients of asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, lung cancer and after surgery.

NAPKON plays a major role in the field of chest diseases to keep the medical community informed about latest developments in the field of pulmonary diseases.

Acupressure camp

Ludhiana, September 24
An acupressure camp is being organised by the Arya Samaj Mandir Trust, Model Town.

According to a press note, the camp is divided in two sessions, morning and evening. Patients are being treated through pranayam, yoga abhyas and acupressure.

Mr Kiran Mandal an organiser, said, “The people are getting treatment as well as training. The patients of diabetes, hypertension, polio, heart problems and stomach ailments are being treated at the camp”.

The 10-day camp will conclude on September 28.

District teams for Punjab Games finalised

District teams for the Punjab State Games for women were finalised today after trials conducted by the district Sports Department between September 17 and 22 at different venues in the city. The teams will take part in the forthcoming Punjab Games to be organised by the Punjab Sports Department here from October 1 to 3, according to Mr Sohan Lal Lotey, District Sports Officer.

The names of the players are: Gymnastics: Babita, Sunita, Reeta, Amanveer, Rekha Shilpi and Sonia; Surinder Kaur (coach);

Volleyball: Jagdeep Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Jagwinder Kaur, Sandeep Kaur, Balwinder Kaur, Kiranjit Kaur, Parveen Kaur, Sajveeer Kaur, Maninder Kaur, Jagdeep Kaur, Baljit Kaur and Gurjit Kaur; standbys Harkanwalpreet Kaur and Neti Sharma; Surinder Singh (coach).

Kho-kho: Seema Rani, Sukhwinder Kaur, Sarbjeet Kaur, Paramjeet Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Jasvir Kaur, Amanveer Kaur, Monica Rani, Anuradha, Neetu Chopra, Kavita and Mona; stand-bye Jagpal Kaur and Sukhvinder Kaur; Surinder Kaur (coach).

Mata Gujri college girls win chess championship

Mandi Ahmedgarh, September 24
Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh, has won Punjabi University Inter-College Women Chess Championship being held at the local Shanti Tara College.

Today’s session was inaugurated by Mr A.K. Malhotra, Secretary of the college, Ms Harinder Kaur, Principal Government College, gave away the prizes to the winners. Girls of Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh won the women’s championship, while Patel Memorial Nehru College, Rajpura Government College for Women, Patiala, secured second and third positions. Mr Inder Mohan, Principal, presented vote of thanks at the prize distribution function today.

Mr Raghu Nandan Sharma a veteran chess player and Block Samiti Member had inaugurated the championship on Tuesday.
