GHG Khalsa College alumni meeting held

Ludhiana, August 25
The first meeting of the executive committee of the Alumni Association of GHG Khalsa College, Gursar Sadhar, was held under the patronship of Dr J.S Brar, Principal of the college, on the college campus yesterday .

The constitution of the association was framed at the meeting. The chart of activities for the calendar year was discussed. It was decided that a seminar on current problems in the field of education will be conducted in September and a cultural function will be held in November. The executive committee lauded the co-operation of Dr J.S Brar in the formation of the association.

The committee also felicitated Mr Daya Singh Thind on being promoted as DEO (S), Fatehgarh Sahib. The other members present in the meeting were Dr M.S Toor of PAU, Dr Jarnail Singh of GSSS Bhainiwaringan. Mr Satwinder Singh of DIET Jagraon, Mr Sukhdev Singh of Sahauli, Dr S.S Sangha fellow PU, Mr Jaswinder Pal Singh, Dr H.S Sidhu and Dr Khushwinder Kumar of Sadhar.

New guidelines for schools discussed

Ludhiana, August 25
The Recognised and Affiliated Schools Association held a meeting at Bhawani Model Senior Secondary School here last evening to discuss some new guidelines issued to them by the Punjab School Education Board.

Mr Ravinder Singh Mann, state president of the association, expressed satisfaction over the fulfillment of their demands by the board chairman, Dr Kehar Singh. He said the board had agreed to allow the affiliated schools to attest additional 250 private forms. The decision to allow them to appoint an examination supervisor from their own staff was another long pending demand which had been fulfilled.

Mr Mann said the members were also happy as there would be no cluster systems for examination control from this year onwards. He said the decision of the board to allow them to deposit the forms of Classes VIII, X and XII would add to their convenience. Also, he said, all such examination forms would be available from the local depot.

Mr Narinder Singh Bangia, district president, said it had now been decided that all students scoring more than 80 per cent marks in board examinations would be honoured by the association.

Extension lecture organised at Arya College

Sqn Ldr P.P. Singh, Commanding Officer of 4 PB Air Sqn., delivered an extension lecture to the students of Arya College, Ludhiana, at the college today. The lecture was organised by the NCC (Air Wing) of the college.

Dr S.M Sharma, Principal of the college, extended welcome to the guest speaker and highlighted the aims and objective of NCC. He also ensured full cooperation in the proper functioning of the NCC unit of the college.

Sqn Ldr P.P Singh dwelt upon various aspects of the activities of NCC (Air Wing) e.g. principles of flying, aero-dynamics and air traffic control services. He also brought out the importance of NCC in developing all round personality of the cadets. He also informed about the job opportunities available to NCC cadets.

Prof. H.S. Sidhu, Dean, Co-Curricular activities, thanked the speaker for vital information given to the students.

On this occasion, an entrance test was also conducted for enlisting the students for NCC (Air Wing) by Flying Officer (NCC) Dr S.P. Singh. A good number of students took the test. Capt. H.S. Sohl, Chief Gliding Instructor, Sahnewal Airport, Warrant Officer Gurmit Singh, Training in charge of NCC activities were the guests of honour on the occasion.

Hall in memory of Ishwar Singh soon

Doraha, August 25
A multipurpose hall at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh will be constructed in the memory of Dr Ishwar Singh at Guru Nanak National College here. A declaration in this regard was made today by Bibi Bhagwant Kaur, his wife and president of the management committee of the college.

A major part of the cost of the project will be borne by the family of Dr Ishwar Singh, whose statue will also be installed at the college.

The committee president was in the college to inaugurate a seminar hall. Among those who attended the gathering were Mr Jogeshwar Singh Mangat, senior vice-president of the committee, and Mr Jagjitwan Pal Singh Gill, vice- president of the committee.

Mukesh teri yaad mein...

Dhvani, a music group, organised a programme titled “Saranga teri yaad mein” at Punjabi Bhavan yesterday to pay tributes to legendary singer Mukesh.
The Dhvani singers, namely Randhir Kanwal, Ravneeet, Ashima, Anil Jain, Arun Vasudeva, Ibaadat, Noro and Abha, captivated the audience with their rendering of Mukesh’s popular songs.

The songs included “Jot se jot jagate chalo” from the film “Sant Gyanashwar”, “Dil jalta hai to jalne de...” from “Pehli Nazar”, “Saranga teri yaad mein...” from “Saranga”, and “Aa laut ke aaja mere meet...” from “Rani Roopmati”.

The duets sung by the artistes included “Kisi rah par, kisi mor par...” from “Mere Hamsafar” and “Har dil jo pyar karega...” from “Sangam”. Mr Anil Kumar was the anchor and Mr Vinod Sharma, Manager (Exports) of Deepak International Limited, was the guest of honour.
